OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #185

Another week, another new music weekly.

What a busy weekend with the Eurovision song contest and NHL game seven action. Another early exit for Toronto and I do feel bad for the Leafs fans. I’m not one myself, but I listen most episodes of the Steve Dangle podcast at work and therefore know the team pretty well. The first playoff round was fun, but I’m also grateful it ends tonight. Need to catch up on sleeping and music. Here’s what I managed to gather for this new music weekly.

Matt Dorrien’s new album is the album of the week here. Other big personal favorites came from Simon Joyner, Chris Bathgate and Joseph Huber. Ok, I’m not exactly sure is the Simon Joyner availability a mistake, because May 20 seem to be the release date everywhere. But it’s available to stream, so let’s go with that. We also got new albums from Monophonics, Kevin Morby, Mama’s Broke, Sequoia (EP), Derek Piotr, 49 Winchester, Donna Blue, Yves Jarvis, Nectar and Tom Brosseau. That Brosseau also has later release date elsewhere, but seem to be available.

New Klasu EP is the jewel of the Finnish section. Other Finnish gems this week are album from Ananas and run of singles from Mikael H, Ylva Haru, AURAL, Otto Mikkola, Kissa, Vuoret, Of Wild and Arppa. Plus a revisit to last week’s A.Reikko album. There’s a big one outside of the evil streaming world though, because Jukka Nousiainen & Kumpp have a new album available on Bandcamp. Oh yeah and I did left out the new Joensuu 1685. It’s a really good one, but it’s about 16 minutes long and this playlist is already longer than what anyone will listen.

International single of the week is probably that new Robert Leslie tune. I’m very fond of the songs he has released during the recent months. Other favorites came from Wilco, M.Lockwood Porter, American Aquarium, Arlo McKinley, Will Stewart, Matthew McNeal and The Burning Hell. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for this week. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. This week I even thought of writing another kind of blog post, but didn’t end up doing it anyway. But maybe it’s a start to even consider doing one haha. Back next week with this new music weekly. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
