OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #211

Another week, another new music weekly.

What a strong week of releases. If you had already compiled your aoty lists, it’s time to go back to the drawing board. One could make a pretty high quality top 10 just by using the albums released on the 18th of November.

Melissa Carper and Taylor Kingman were on the top of my list and both made wonderful albums. Then there’s the return of Caitlin Rose and that is a parade-worthy event. Cassidy Snider & The Wranglers followed one of my fave EPs of 2021 with a strong debut album. I only discovered David Miner when the advance singles of his album started to surface. Now the full album is here and I’m loving his heartache country. That Sarah Lee Langford & Will Stewart is also special. On the other side of the octa musical spectrum we have new album from Gladie, which is always a big deal. Field School album and The Laughing Chimes EP is a good combo, if you need some excellent indie pop. That’s just a small fraction of all the action and there’s also awesome releases from Liz Jones, Rob Dobson (ok this one’s a few weeks old, but I missed it before), Isaac Hoskins, Billy Strings, Old Californio (mostly covers), Neal Francis (EP), Claude Munson (EP), Weyes Blood, Ian Wayne, Reed Turchi, sock jock (EP), Joe Wunderle and Dogwood Tales (EP).

A new Message Field album is the star of the Finnish section. Other beautiful things from Finland are albums from Sammal and Ville Miettinen, EP from Lala Salama and singles from The Handkerchiefs and Otto Mikkola. The playlist also revisits last week’s gorgeous Heta Narkaus album.

The international single of week is the new one from The Lostines. Check out the music video too. Other big faves came from Tim Hill, Ron Sexsmith, Doug Paisley, Andy Shauf, Lilly Hiatt (well cover, but a damn good one), Robert Ellis (same as Lilly), Olivia Rudeen, Nathan K and Toria Wooff. Again just to name few.

That’s all for this week. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Oh yeah and there’s a whole lot of Christmas songs there already, but I won’t flood this playlist with them. I’ll make an own list for them sometime in a week or two, so those who love them can find them and those who hate them can ignore them. I like them, but not yet in November. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
