OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #235

A big release week, because we have the new Kassi Valazza album out and available. Love it so much. It might be a bit too early, but it feels like it’s my favorite album of the year so far along with the Dean Johnson album that came out few weeks ago. Kassi Valazza will also perform in Finland in July. Tampere, Nykarleby and Mariehamn to be more precise. I’m really looking forward to the Tampere concert on the 14th of July. Other big album releases of the week came from Chris Staples, RF Shannon, Shirley Collins, Jim Ghedi & Toby Hay, Panic Pocket, Radiator Hospital, Lyndsay Stone, Gia Margaret and Leeann Skoda (EP).

Rosettes 7″ single is the Finnish highlight of the week. Other beautiful Finnish things this week are singles from Waver, Jukka Nousiainen, Rakkaudella Janne, Tinyhawk & Bizzarro and Raivo Jackson.

Steven van Betten made the international song of the week. Such a beauty. Made me cry a bit. Other big early faves came from Leah Senior, Adeem the Artist, Caleb Stine, Teenage Fanclub, Luka Kuplowsky, Buck Meek, Sam Burton, Smug Brothers, David James Allen, Tommy Prine and so forth. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. There might or might not be a small break now. I have a bit of vacation starting on the 2nd of June. The plan was to go to STHLM Americana festival, but unfortunately that was cancelled. Now I have to rethink what to do and when. Which might mean there’s no new music weekly next weekend and/or the weekend after that. If I have time, I might do it but I thought I won’t force myself. Just don’t want to have the burden of this hanging over me while I plan the vacation. So the next one might be on the the weekend of 17-18th of June unless I discover that life is sweeter without this crazy project. I doubt it. If I miss a couple weeks, I try to cover the new music of those weeks too at least to some extent. I guess one thing I could try during the next few weeks is the sort of on-going new music playlist with daily new music additions to the streaming platforms (without a blog post). I sort of like this current method that has a start and an end and some kind of song order / flow, but it might be time to try less time consuming way of doing a new music playlist. This might be a decent time for that. Anyway, that’s all for now. Back either week 22, week 23 or week 24. Love love love.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
