Another week, another weekly playlist.

I even did a couple of blog posts this week. Hurray me. Oh well, just a quick round-up posts though that really aren’t much better than nothing at all. Still I try to keep delivering at least these kind of posts for the next month or so.

The highlight of the week was the release of the new Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers album on Bloodshot Records. Other intriguing ones came from J Mascis, Stephen Steinbrink, Rhett Miller, Timber, The Wave Pictures, J Fernandez, Matt Campbell, Tellico, Charles Bradley and Meg Baird & Mary Lattimore. The Last Detail and Stoner Control are slightly older, but I missed them when they came out earlier in the year. One important EP too, because Shonna Tucker released a new EP Dreams of Mine.

The song of the week is the new John K. Samson single Saturday Night On Utopia Parkway. It’s a beautiful cover of a song by Christine Fellows. Lots of other great singles too from Dan Wilson, Julia Jacklin, Penniless, Madeline Leman & The Desert Dwells, Hayess Carll, Mandolin Orange, William Tyler, Ibeko Shakedown, The Gripsweats and Vasas Flora och Fauna (Leevi & The Leavings cover).

And as usual, some of my faves from last week appear with another song.

Another week, another weekly playlist.

Sorry for the slight delay in case someone was waiting for this and yeah sorry for the lack of updates once again (I’m such a loser). This is getting slightly less crowded, because the end of the year is getting closer and there aren’t as many new releases. But hold on with your lists, there’s still lots of great albums on the way later in November (like the new ones from Grand Salvo, Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers and Daniel Romano). The key new albums for me this week were the new albums from Canadian singer-songwriter Doug Paisley and the Swedish power pop maestros The Genuine Fakes. Dan Mangan and Jylhä Yrjö albums have also been on heavy rotation. Orchid Eaton album is from June, but I found it yesterday and it sounds intriguing. Still madly in love with the Laura Gibson album. I haven’t included a lot of retro or rarities stuff on these lists, because these are already way too long, but there’s a wonderful set from Hiss Golden Messenger so I made an exception this time around.

The two-song single/EP from Nap Eyes is a winner and long time favourite Kent Eugene Goolsby dropped a new excellent EP too. There’s great new singles from Pedro The Lion, Karla Kane, Joshua Ray Walker, Cass McCombs, Whim, Ian Wayne, Alicia Stockman, Jess Locke and Andrew Bird. Message Field is a new Finnish band and their debut single is a moving elegy for a dear friend.

And last but not least there’s a gorgeous ending song by VanWyck. Probably the song I listened to the most and loved the most this week (if you rule out the Laura Gibson album).

I’m pretty pathetic and hopeless. Another week flew by without a single blog post. I need to get my act together, because I have a like a gazillion of albums that I want to write about before it’s time for the end of the year lists. Whether I get it together remains to be seen. Meanwhile let’s dive into the best new music of the week.

The new Laura Gibson album Goners became an instant favorite. It’s early and I’ve only lived a few days with it on my side, but I’m already convinced that it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard all year. Might even the best. Other really big album releases for me were the new ones from Adeline Hotel, Jamie Lin Wilson and Nick Dittmeir & The Sawdusters. The week also brough intriquing new albums from Ian Sweet, Hush Kids, Carson McHone, Anna Stine, The Skiffle Players, David Benedict, Martha Spencer, Jon Hatchett Band, Nicholas Krgovich and Mr Husband. Colyn Cameron’s excellent solo album (Wake Owl) is a few weeks old, but I missed it back then. Not a whole lot of EPs on the playlist this week, but the Boygenius EP is of course incredible. Dead Gowns EP is some months old, but I just got the memo earlier in the week.

Anna Tivel’s single from her forthcoming album is the song of the week. There’s also great ones from Doug Paisley, Matthew McNeal, Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers, Leafy Seadragon, Patrick Dethlefs and Stephen Kellogg.

Not a whole lot of Finnish stuff this week, but there’s a song from the gorgeous New Silver Girl that came out on Soliti this week. Plus songs from the latest Kynnet and Pää kii albums that came out earlier in October.
