Woody Pines – Anything For Love (video)

Another quick video post. I know there’s some really important releases that I need to cover like the new Austin Lucas and Caleb Caudle albums and I will get to them hopefully sometime soon. However, my spare time is limited and these little posts are a way to keep the blog going on. And of course these are still important and significant. I mean Woody Pines. Who doesn’t love Woody Pines? Hillbilly boogie, ragtime, vintage roots music etc. Irresistible stuff. The self-titled Woody Pines album came out last year on Muddy Roots Recordings and now they put together a music video for the song Anything For Love. Anything for you Woody. Take it away:

Peter Bruntnell – Mr Sunshine (aka the Donald Trump song)

One of UK’s finest and a long time favorite of mine, Peter Bruntnell, will release a new full-length album Nos Da Comrade on 1st of April. I will get back to the whole album later, but here’s the excellent first outtake Mr. Sunshine that is also known as the Donald Trump song. Here’s the quote that explains the story behind this song.

“‘Mr Sunshine’ is a song by Peter Bruntnell concerning Donald Trump, the 2016 Republican Presidential Candidate. Trump, with the help of the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, displaced a Scottish fishing community in order to build a luxury golf resort; Follow the links below to the documentary ‘You’ve been Trumped’ for more about this story of greed and lack of compassion.”

You can find the whole story and all the links from the video description if you watch it at youtube.

Jim Bryson – The Depression Dance (video)

Another quick video post. This time it’s Canadian Jim Bryson and the opening track The Depression Dance of his new album Somewhere We Will Find Our Place. I actually haven’t heard the album yet, so this is serves also as a reminder to myself that I should take care of that sometime very soon. Everyone needs a bit of Jim Bryson in their life.

This first outtake is a little different than the folk beauties of the one he did with The Weakerthans. Perhaps this is even something that I don’t normally enjoy, but I must say that I really like this song. It makes me happy. It even makes me want to dance a little and to do that to a reserved, shy, quiet man is extremely difficult. Well done Jim. The world feels a little lighter for the duration of that song and perhaps the song will carry some of the weight next time I let some minor insignificant thing drag me down. It’s an elite skill of mine. Being stressed about things that don’t really matter. But this could help, this is The Depression Dance.

Elephant Micah – Rare Beliefs (video)

A quick video post, but an important one. Elephant Micah is a long-time favourite of mine. Last year Western Vinyl released his excellent album Where in Our Woods. The highlight of this beautiful album was the last song Rare Beliefs. I’ve listened to it so many times that my math skills aren’t good enough to count them all. Rare Beliefs is a rare beauty and a song that I hold dear.
