Title pretty much covers it all. These are Finnish songs that I absolutely love and adore. Some are waiting to be released, some will probably (and unfortunately) forever remain unreleased, some are self-released. All are utterly wonderful. I hope I didn’t forget anyone really important. Of course there’s plenty of others I really enjoyed as well, but these are the ones I really loved the most. It’s actually rather pointless to divide these finnish songs into label-stuff and unreleased, because let’s face it. If I make a top 30 finnish songs of the year list, these all would make it to that list.

Here we go (again).. These are not in any specific order.

Carmen & The Devil – Love Drove My Baby Away & Tell-Tale Heart

Impossible to decide between these two Carmen & The Devil originals, so I have to include them both. It’s definitely been a year of Carmen & The Devil at this household. I loved their concerts and those three limited edition cassettes. Playing just the kind of music I love these days and doing it exceptionally well. Country duets, traditional folk songs, great cover choices, beautiful originals. Hopefully an album next year.

Tolbiac – Elokuussa

Just how amazing is this song? The radio host of the highest order and the writer of the legendary indie hit Purkkaa , the international man of mystery, Tolbiac returned with a couple of stunning songs. Especially this song entitled Elokuussa is so good that I could listen to it all day long.

Heartjet – Grace

A big onechord.net favourite, power pop duo Heartjet gave a couple of new songs for free. Grace & World are both awesome. A bit more serene than before, but equally great.

Puskii! – Mä haluun bändin

Puskii! has an album ready, but it seems to take a long while to get it out and available. A big shame, because I love listening to them. This song is a whole lot of fun and sometimes that’s everything you need.

The Wonderminers – Stars in the Window

Petri Nakari’s new band released a digital 4-song EP that is a thing of beauty and takes a high place on the best EPs of the year list, if I decide to make one. This slice of pop heaven is called Stars In The Window.

Swaying Wires – Never Fade

Swaying Wires is a new band from Turku and I’m enjoying them more and more each day. They have four songs over at Soundcloud. I can’t really decide which one I like the most, because they are all extremely good. I previously posted Bluebird, so let’s go with Never Fade this time around. It brings to mind early Songs: Ohia occasionally. I’m loving it.

The Spoonshiners – Three Years

The Spoonshiners EP hits all the right spots for a fan of 90s US indie, and 70s power pop. I especially loved this track called Three Years, because it reminded me of things like Dinosaur JR and Buffalo Tom.

Treehouse – By The Lake

I was totally into this song early in the year and it still sounds brilliant. Just a fantastic pop song. A bit of TFC, a bit of Popsicle and a bit of country. A perfect formula if you ask me. And I love those harmonies..

Matti Jasu & The Loose Train – Fingers Crossed

And then a really late favourite. This outtake from the upcoming Matti Jasu & The Loose Train album is friggin’ great. I loved Matti Jasu’s work at Goodnight Monsters and this new stuff seem to be equally awesome.

Carmen & The Devil, The finest Finnish country/folk duo has some new songs for you. You might have heard these new Carmen & The Devil originals on their stunningly beautiful live concerts during the recent months, but now they’ve added the songs to their Soundcloud as well (there’s also a limited edition cassette that contains these new tunes, but that might be a bit tricky to find). This wonderful band will be mostly investigating the Austrian old time country scene for the next couple of years, but let’s hope they manage to get that debut album done and dusted sometime during 2012. That’s going to be a thing of beauty. The new songs are Tell-Tale Heart and Row Row and you’ll find them below. COUNTRY-FOLKIA FLAVOUR OF THE MONTHISSA

Flavour Of The Month-klubin lokakuun livemusiikkiannos tarjoillaan jo syyskuun puolella, perjantaina 30.9., tutusti ravintola Pikku-Torren lavalla. Tuolloin ohjelmassa on suomalaisen akustisen country- ja folkmusiikin huippuosaamista.

Tamperelainen Hiljainen mies avaa illan. Hiljainen mies saattaa olla tuttu hienosta Hi-Lo And In Between-yhtyeestä, joka on parikin kertaa esiintynyt FOTM-klubilla. Hi-Lo’n americana on tällä haavaa vaihtunut kotimaisempaan kaihoon esityskielenkin ollessa suomi. Odotettavissa on lauluja viime vuoden lopulla julkaistulta debyyttialbumilta Puiden ylle kaatuu aurinko ja muut.

The wonderful pop group Burning Hearts are releasing new material. The follow-up to the excellent debut Aboa Sleeping is still in the working state, but a new Burning Hearts EP Into The Wilderness is already waiting for your heart just around the corner. And don’t worry. It’s not there waiting for you with baseball bat and bad temper. It will only be armed with hugs, kisses, tenderness and beautiful indie pop sounds. The EP will be released by Shelflife Records on june 21st. You can check out the marvellous title track below and pre-order the EP from the Shelflife website.

Carmen & The Devil recently played a couple of shows with the excellent Damien Jurado and released a second cassette. A few copies might still be left at the best record store in the country (8raita), but if you are not able to get the cassette or have a hard time trying to figure out how you can attach that thing to the usb or dvd drive of your laptop, you can nowadays listen to some of their excellent songs on their soundcloud page. 22-PISTEPIRKKO

I haven’t written much about 22-Pistepirkko to onechord.net even though it’s one of the finest bands in Finland. Why? Well because I’ve always felt that my tiny website can’t really give anything to the already well-known bands and therefore I’ve focused on the smaller groups that (at least in my dreamland) might somehow benefit from my amateurish writings. Nevertheless. It would be stupid not to write this. The new 22-Pistepirkko album Lime Green Delorean came out last week and the songs I’ve heard so far sound absolutely amazing. This could be one of their finest albums and considering their brilliant back catalogue, that’s a lot said. Time to visit the record store next week. Here’s Ufo Girl from the new album.
