OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #363

Another week, another new music weekly. There might be a break after this one though. Next 9 out of 10 days will be day job days and most of them overtime too. Sunday will be the only day off and right now I have no idea whether I have it in me to make this on that one off day. It’s not totally out of the question, but I’m not going to push it if it feels like I need the rest more. But I’ll let you know on the social media channels if there won’t be one next weekend.

Gladie, Luka Kuplowsky and Micah Schnabel & Vanessa Jean Speckman can split the album of the week honors, because they are all great in different ways. The Schnabel / Speckman one has been on Bandcamp for a while, but only just noticed that it was streaming too. Sorry if it was there before and I missed it. But Bandcamp is better anyway. Other album gems this week came from Leah Blevins, The Montvales, Michael Nau(EP), Jack Studer, Spencer Thomas, Danny George Wilson, Joshua Burnside, Morgan Nagler (missed last week), Nick Droz, Les Blackwell, Sean Thomas Gerard, Ryan Pollie (EP), Otoliths, Special Friend, Son Little, SH CRANE, Masahiro Takahashi and Discovery Zone & John Moods (this was previously bandcamp/physical only I think)

The Finnish part has great new albums from Pelkkä Poutanen, Antti Autio, Joose Keskitalo and Saaga. Plus singles from The Lovematches, Matti Jasu, Eidetic Dreams, Pykäri, Telephone Romeo, Vilma Talvitie, Janeveera and Eerika ja Sakari. There’s one 2025 release too and that’s an album from Rakas Eden. So it’s not exactly brand new, but music is relevant whenever it hits the listener’s heart and this one did just that to me this week. I spent hours listening to it and absolutely loved it. Therefore I wanted to include it here as well.

(Actually it’s kind of sad that these days it often feels like album/song is relevant for like two weeks around the release date and then the cycle is over and people move on to other things.. and yeah, I’m probably contributing to that short life cycle sillyness by making a really long weekly playlist that changes every damn week)

New Ian Noe is the international single of the week. That Carsie Blanton & The Burning Hell collaboration made me both laugh and cry. Some other early faves came from Vincent Neil Emerson, Meredith Edgar, Slippers, Charlie Hill, John Andrews & The Yawns, Beche, Cactus Lee, Frog… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Another one of these coming someday. Whenever that is remains to be seen. Love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.
