Nopat & Burning Hearts

Today was a great day for Finnish pop music, because two marvellous albums came out. I already know that the Nopat album is awesome and I’m 100% sure that the Burning Hearts album is also wonderful (I will buy a copy next time I visit the 8raita record store). Unfortunately I was too busy to write a proper news entry today, so I just give you the soundbites this time around. I will write about these within a week or two.

Flavour of the Month 3.2.2012 – Ochre Room, Markus Perttula

February’s Flavour of the Month is around the corner and takes place next friday 3.2.2012. Artists sharing the stage are Ochre Room and Markus Perttula.

Ochre Room is a folk rock / americana group from Tampere. They released a great Blue Ribbon EP last year. This is the title track.

Markus Perttula is an excellent singer-songwriter from Turku. Markus is currently working on his debut album. Really Looking forward to that, because his soundcloud songs are pretty amazing. This one is entitled Ainoa tie.

Devil Box – The Thing at the End

Blues collective Devil Box released their debut album The Thing at the End on friday 20th of january, 2012. I’m just listening to it for the first time while writing this and I’m really enjoying it. The album was released by Kääntö Records. This is the opener Dial D For Devil.

Black Twig – Paper Trees

I’m finally noticing that it’s 2012 already and I better start recommending some new stuff. Soliti released Black Twig’s debut album Paper Trees last week and pretty much every blog has already mentioned that it is excellent. I still want to join the party, because it definitely is an excellent album. The standout tracks are the first outtakes Lake Song and Death Scene, but the whole thing is truly enjoyable. Beautifully distorted fuzzy pop album with noisy and/or hypnotic songs. This is Lake Song.
