Great Horned Owl – Whistler Bear

hornedowl

Here’s another beauty that has been on my playlist for a month or so. Great Horned Owl is an indie folk group from Portland, Oregon and Whistler Bear is their latest album. I’m very much into this fragile folk album. Whistler Bear might not work in every possible occasion, but when the time is right this can melt an iceberg or two. You can again buy and listen to the whole album at bandcamp. Here is a song called After Sunset that starts with words “I look down at the snow-covered ground / And I feel warmth / because I am with you, love”. A good reminder about things that actually matter (for a Finnish blogger who is more than little upset that it’s april and it was still snowing a lot today).

Radio Days – Get Some Action

radiodays

I’m so far behind with this blog stuff that it isn’t even funny anymore. I suppose I should quit if I can’t find the time & energy to do this properly. But I won’t, because where else would I tell the world (or the seven regular readers) that the great Italian power pop group Radio Days just released their new album Get Some Action last month. I pre-ordered and received my copy last week and it’s pretty damn good album. I’ve been listening to a lot of Bobby Emmett, Radio Days and Kurt Baker lately and it feels great to notice that there are plenty of marvellous power pop acts around. You can buy and stream the whole thing on their bandcamp. Here’s a brand new video for the title track Get Some Action.

Great Peacock – Great Peacock EP

greatpeacock

This is American Music has again been releasing a lot of great music this year. All of them would be worthy of an own blog post, but my favourite is probably this new EP from Great Peacock. This Nashville-based duo of Blount Floyd and Andrew Nelson are making some sort of southern indie folk and it’s sounds pretty marvellous to me. The singing and the harmonies are pure gold. These guys are going places. This is the opener Take Me to the Mountain.

Ben Fisher. Kickstarter etc.

Ben Fisher’s kickstarter for full-lenght album is closing in about 12 hours. He is a young Seattle-based singer-songwriter. Influenced by the great ones like Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Joe Pug, James McMurtry etc. And he is not just another singer-songwriter. He has found his own voice and there’s definitely some real talent here. He is still a bit short of his kickstarter goal and I sincerely hope he makes it. He has promised free downloads of his earlier releases for new backers (check his facebook), so you get something rather special instantly and then the new album when it’s ready next fall/winter. I’ve been listening to the earlier Roanoke EP, Heavy Boots & Underwoods album for the past day and I really like them a lot. So even if you don’t have anything to give for the Kickstarter, you should go and listen to him. This is Dublin Blues Pt.2 from Roanoke EP.
