Video of the Day #114: Pickering Pick

The two artists I’ve listened to the most in 2012 are Chris Bathgate and Pickering Pick. I was really addicted to them early in the year and still listen to them regularly. Just last week I listened the whole Pickering Pick catalogue (or at least everything I have) at work and that was a very enjoyable day at the office (not that I work in an office). Yeah, I think I might said in the past that Pickering Pick works best in small doses, but I’ve gotten over it and eight hours of Pickering Pick works just as well. Anyway, recently Sera shot three great videos of his brother playing magically beautiful songs. This one is Tiger On Your Arm from 2011 Yer Bird release Tiger Balm.

And here’s Stay By Yours (from 2012 album Prayer Flag) and here’s The Smiths cover Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want.

Oh and I also have to use this opportunity post one of my favourite 2012 songs. I did write about Pickering Pick’s 2012 album Prayer Flag earlier in the year, but at the time I failed to post or even mention the song Seasons on the Run. It has since become my favourite song of the album and I keep on getting back to it on a weekly basis. It’s just wonderful and that Great Dictator speech fit in perfectly. I love the song dearly.

Video of the Day #112: Browan Lollar

I’ve watched this over ten times today. I got the TIAM mail about this and other things a while back, but red it on a coffee break at work and forgot to watch the video later. Well until today Jan (from No Deal Music) posted it on Facebook. The song instantly won my head, heart, elbow & toenail over and other body parts should follow in a brief moment. I’m not too familiar with Browan Lollar at this point, but he used to play with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit (also made the cover art for the albums I think) and now This Is American Music is releasing his solo EP For The Givers And The Takers sometime soon. You might more used to expect wonderful americana/folk/country/rock’n’roll from TIAM, but at least this Browan Lollar song is actually a really great pop song that could and should be praised also in the power pop scene. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the EP after this fabulous song Cars.

Video of the Day #111: Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson

Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson have a new album. I wasn’t aware of that until today. Actually I’ve never been that impressed with either of them as a solo artist (ok, I’ve only tried a few songs here and there), but together they are rather brilliant. The previous duo album Rattlin’ Bones was an instant hit in this household. Now this married couple has finally released a new album entitled Wreck & Ruin. Already out in Australia I think and US release will follow later in october. This is the first single Adam & Eve.
