OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #325

This one felt like a tiny bit slower release week, but somehow I still managed to end up with a 70 song playlist. Phew.

Kristina Murray and King Hüsky can share the album of the week honors, so you’ll get both sides of this blog. One great country album and one great pop album. Other new albums this week came from Caitlin Cannon, Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires, Adult Mom, Alien Boy, Babe Lewis, Why Dogs Why (EP), I’m With Her, Maia Friedman, Pascale Cheron (full album on Bandcamp), Cash Langdon (this was last week, but just found it thanks to the almighty New Commute), John Cathal O’Brien (EP), Peter Donovan, Simon Linsteadt (EP) and Cole Pulice.

My favorite Finnish release this week is the new ITE EEROLA album Kolmen päivän levy IV. The whole thing was again written and recorded in three days and still at least half of these songs are so wonderful that I love them with all my heart and the rest are very good too. Se mitä en uskaltanut sanoa, Lämmintä viiniä and Outo katse go to that first category. I don’t really know how Reetta is always able to create something so beautiful and moving in such a short time frame. A special talent. Oh and of course there’s other Finnish gems too. We have beautiful albums from Ville Vuorenmaa (from the mighty Sur-rur), Kirsikkapuu and Isse plus singles from Janne Tapion Sisäinen Avaruus, Asla Jo, Litku Klemetti, Ani Harmi, Orvokki, KiPPO and Puhelinseksi. Oh and The Rocks EP too. This one is available on cassette and non-Spotify streaming services. So there’s a track on the Tidal version of this playlist.

The international single of the week is the new one from Hectorine. This is the third one and all of them are marvellous. The first one is still my favorite song of the year so far. Full AOTY level album out later this month. Expect to be mesmerized. Other early faves came from 54 Ultra, Josienne Clarke, Daniel Romano, Allo Darlin’.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. A lot of good concert stuff coming up next week. Jenny Don’t and the Spurs are touring in Finland and so are David Ramirez and Noah Gundersen. And on the Finnish side of things the already mentioned ITE EEROLA returns to stage after a small break. And most likely a lot of other good stuff. Live music is the best. But back next week with another one of these as well. Love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.
