OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #323

Back again. I did skip the Easter weekend and therefore this one tries to cover the past two weeks. I’m sure there’s stuff missing, because it’s difficult to handle so much new music at one go. Plus I did just leave some out, because this is already far longer than anyone will listen. Biggest draft had over 120 songs, but I cut it down to an even hundred. Monk would be proud of me.

Slow Motion Cowboys album is the one I’ve listened the most so far, so that can be the album of the week(s) on this patch. That Colin Miller album also hits really hard and that Bells Larsen album is so beautiful (I didn’t put the cover of that album to the collage, because Meta often seem to auto-block photos with nudity). And the list goes on and on. We have great albums from Jerry David DeCicca, Mike Frazier, Julie Arsenault & Aaron Comeau, Michael Cloud Duguay, Jo Schornikow, Satomimagae, Avery Friedman, Trevor Beld Jimenez, Olive Klug, Leslie Jordan, Blue Cactus, Leon Majcen, Mason Via, Uwade, Pitney Meyer, Mark Fredson, Rubber Band Gun, Jason Dea West, JPW & Dad Weed, Mythical Motors, Festiva, Ryan Allen and His Extra Men, Jessica Lea Mayfield (EP), Run Coyote (EP), Rodeo Boys, Marlene Oak (EP), William Tyler, Firestations, Ally Kerr and Flying Mojito Bros.

The Finnish part of is led by a new Kristiina single and it’s again marvellous. It kinda felt like a betrayal to skip the new music weekly on a week that Kristiina released new music, but at least it’s here now. Another highlight is the debut single from Janne Laurila Double Denim. Other Finnish gems of the past two weeks are albums from Räjäyttäjät, Thelma’s Dream, The Bablers, Lauri Kallio and Tove Johnson (EP) plus singles from Jukka Nousiainen Trio, Juovat, Krypta, Petra Poutanen, Kirsikkapuu, Itcevät, Neiti Olga, Ilja Karsikas feat Janne Tapion Sisäinen Avaruus and AK-77. Outside of the evil streaming services we have a gorgeous new album from Jean Ramsay. You can get if from Bandcamp for example. I’ll return to that album on a later date.

The international singles are a bit buried on the second half of this monster playlist, but there’s plenty of great ones. Some early faves there came from Philippe Bronchtein, Bryse Taylor, Jobi Riccio, Pearl Charles, S.G. Goodman, Brennan Edwards, Vandoliers, Kristina Murray, Nicholas Jamerson, Kyle Cox, Friendship, Zach Thompson… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I hope I didn’t forget too much. I try to fill the holes during coming weeks, if I did. Good luck to everyone who tries to listen all of this or even half of this. A bit shorter one next week with the usual one week edition. Love love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.
