China – Pool of Tears

chinaband

Some rather brilliant news waited on my mailbox when I arrived home after a 12-hour work shift. There was a notification that China has released a new album called Pool of Tears. I was very much into their earlier EPs, so I instantly bought a digital copy and this is what I’ve been listening to it all evening long. It might be too early for final conclusions, but I’m so loving this and will probably soon start re-sketching my favourite albums of 2016 list. China is following Odawas lead and sounds absolutely marvellous. I would even prefer China, if I had to choose. Thankfully I don’t have to choose and I can just love both China and Odawas and all the the music that Michael James Tapscott and co makes. Pool of Tears is now out and available on Royal Oakie Records.

Margaret Glaspy – You and I (video)

glaspy

One more for tonight and then it’s time to go to bed. Margaret Glaspy’s album Emotions and Math is out now on ATO Records. I’ve had it on steady rotation and I find it really good. Well for the most parts anyway. I really struggle with the second track Situation. However, Margaret loves Pinkerton, so that is such a big mark on the plus column that one song that I don’t particularly enjoy is nothing. My favourite song on the album is You and I and there’s also a gorgeous and colourful video for the song. This is so awesome and has been stuck in my head since I first heard it early in the year.

Teenage Fanclub – I’m In Love

teenagefanclub

The biggest music news of the year is that there’s a new Teenage Fanclub album coming up in September. I’m not sure do I even need to write about this, because it’s like preaching to a choir and most of you already know this new song by heart. I love these Scottish masters of pop music. Always have and always will. If I make a list of my all time favourite bands or albums. Teenage Fanclub will be on the second place on both of those lists (Grand Prix is the album pick). The album Here is out Sep 9th on PeMA / Merge. This is the wonderful first single I’m In Love.

Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster – Constant Stranger

justinpeter

Andrew Bryant’s solo album This is the Life ruled my year end lists of 2015. We shall see will Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster do the same at the end of 2016 with his solo album Constant Stranger (if I’m still making this blog when it’s time to write those). Based on this excellent first outtake Headed South, I wouldn’t rule out that possibility. This sounds mighty good to my ears. Oh and in case you are not aware of the connection, they are both members of a great American band called Water Liars. Constant Stranger is out 30th of September on Big Legal Mess / Fat Possum. I will return to this one then when I have actually heard the whole thing. Meanwhile I keep on spinning this song below over and over again.
