Robert Ellis – Photographs

Today I found Robert Ellis. A Houston-based country and folk singer-songwriter. He is only 22-years old, but he is already damn good. His new album Photographs was released by New West in july. This single What’s In It For Me is a wonderful traditional country song.

But I love even more songs like this opener Friends Like Those.

New Eilen Jewell album Queen Of The Minor Key was released by Signature Sounds in late june. I still haven’t bought it, but I’ve been watching her new video Warning Signs over and over again and it’s getting more and more obvious that I will miss a great deal if don’t buy this beauty. I just love this little song. So catchy.

Fountains Of Wayne – Sky Full Of Holes

Fountains Of Wayne is regarded as one of the best pop bands in the world here at the onechord.net headquarters. However, I was mildly disappointed with the previous album Traffic and Weather. It was a hit and miss album. There were some absolute FOW classics like Fire In The Canyon, but also some songs I did not like at all. Therefore I had some doubts when I bought the new album last week when it was released, but oh my. There’s not a thing to worry about. Sky Full Of Holes is a really solid pop album from start to finish and Schlesinger/Collingwood have once again written a bunch of fantastic pop songs.

The Red Button – As Far As Yesterday Goes

This entry is also a reminder to myself. I need to order the new The Red Button album asap. The debut album She’s About To Cross My Mind was a slice of 60’s influenced power pop heaven and the follow-up As Far As Yesterday Goes has been out for a while now. Based on the sound samples on The Red Button website, Seth Swirsky and Mike Ruekberg have once again created a fabulous pop album.

This is the wonderful Cruel Girl from the debut album:
