Dave Gerard & The Watchmen – Wooden Castles

It looks like I’m not following British folk music closely enough. I didn’t know anything about Dave Gerard & The Watchmen until I found this magnificent album Wooden Castles at Bandcamp a few weeks ago. I’ve had this on heavy rotation for the past week and I have especially fallen in love with this song called Broken Horses. A modern take on traditional british folk music maybe. Not that I’m really an expert, but the song and the vocals kind of reminds me of Kevin Ayers (not the experimental side, more like the Kevin who wrote beautiful songs for the first three classic solo albums). The New Tigers – Secondary City

The New Tigers just released new music video Secondary City from their excellent 2013 album The Badger. This is my favourite song of the new album. Such a great chorus. The Badger was also released in the UK today and will be distributed in the UK by Shellshock. More about The New Tigers when I compile my top 10 Finnish albums of the year list later in December. This is Secondary City.

Flavour of the Month goes Garage Soul: Sky Dee and the Demons, Good Times 5.12.2013

A new month and a new Flavour of the Month. Sky Dee and the Demons & Good Times will share the stage at Pikku-Torre, Turku on thursday 5th of December. See you there. Below is the Finnish lesson of the month. I also want to thank FOTM’s marketing department for giving me a DJ name. I didn’t have one. Along with Chips Pussy and Kolibri Kasino that looks a bit like that legendary black metal line-up Saergh, Blaerah ja Seppo.

Joulukuun Flavour of the Month-ilta järjestetään poikkeuksellisesti torstaina, eli itsenäisyyspäivän aattona 5.12. Tuolloin klubin livevieraaksi saapuu helsinkiläinen Sky Dee and the Demons, joka hämmentää tyylikästä, uruilla ryyditettyä autotallirock-soul-keitosta. Bändi on julkaissut Stupido Recordsilla peräti kolme CD-EP:tä ja vihdoin aiemmin tänä vuonna myös täyspitkän albumin Just Like That.

Illan avaa Flavour of the Monthin epävirallinen housebändi, klubin järjestäjäportaasta siinnyt The Good Times. Kvartetin musiikkilinjaus liikkuu linjalla 60-luvun beat-vanha rytmiblues-garagerock.

Illan teemaan sopivasta levymusiikista vastaavat DJ:t Vesa Lautamäki, Chips Pussy ja Kolibri Kasino.
