When did music blogs become 25 years old? And how old does that make me the music blogger? Time is a weird concept. Yet, here we are. One Chord to Another is quarter of a century old. That’s an achievement and something to be proud of. This definitely has its shortcomings, but doing something just out of love for music for that long shows passion and dedication. There probably should have been a festival, a party or some sort of celebration, but I lacked organizing skills and naturally didn’t have any money. So instead you get this picture of my face that I made with Canva in 15 minutes with my non-existent design skills. Didn’t even bother to get out of the pajamas, but I guess that makes some sense too. There’s bedroom pop and this is a bedroom blog. I appreciate you who treat onechordnet as an actual media and I guess on some level it can be that, but when you send stuff to the editorial office or team this is what the email will find. One middle-aged man in his pajamas.
I believe or at least convince myself to believe that there’s still value in a human curated music blog / playlist that doesn’t care whether something is popular or not. I think the strength of this blog is the continuity and the fact that it goes fairly deep and finds beautiful music that doesn’t (at least yet) get much recognition in that actual music media. I can’t do anything for the Jason Isbells of this world, but for example finding your first ever released song featured in a music blog on the other side of the globe can mean something.
And giant thank you to all the readers and listeners. You make this worthwhile. This won’t ever become viral or reach the masses, but it doesn’t need to because there’s you. It matters to me so much that you follow this whether it’s occasionally or regularly. I also love the fact that many of you are kind of similar music enthusiasts who might spread the music they find here further. I love it when this is a discovery source and any kind of further shares of the music found here is encouraged. No matter whether it’s your own music platform or a bar table conversation with friends. I also want to apologize for being so bad at engaging with you. I’m kind of a shy and quiet person and that applies to my online personality too. But yeah, I should work on that because I appreciate all the interactions and feedback that I get.
Anyway, that’s a wrap for the first 25 years of onechord.net. Who knows how long it will continue. I guess this has been a part of who I am for so long that it’s difficult to see a full complete stop of not doing anything anymore. In my wildest dreams I sometimes think that I should try to do more, but frankly even the current way of doing this takes at least 4-5 hours of pretty much my every weekend (I take a few weeks off during the year) and that’s a big commitment and sometimes hard to justify. Then there’s of course a lot of time spent listening and finding new music throughout the week, but that’s something that I would do regardless because I love music. However, if you want the blog and the new music weekly to continue all the likes, shares and follows are much appreciated. The metrics aren’t that important, but curators don’t get any stats so without them it’s kind of difficult to tell am I just sending songs to a void.
And lastly if you want to celebrate the 25 years of One Chord to Another, buy a record or see a live a concert. I mostly just make a weekly playlist these days, but what I love the most are albums and concerts. So while this has its value as a grass root discovery source, live shows are where the true magic happens. Love.
