OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #319

Another week, another new music weekly.

A bit of a pop start this time around. Sharp Pins and Brian D’Addario can share the album of the week spot. I mean Sharp Pins should have been album of the week when it originally came out last year, but I only found out of this greatness a few months ago. It’s more than relevant now too, because there’s a new reissue on vinyl with a few new songs. Other album releases of the week came from Exploding Flowers, Jeremy Bradley Earl (EP), Heat Manager (this was last week), Gabi Hartmann, Eliza Niemi, Cross Record, Ed Kuepper & Jim White, Jeffrey Lewis, Kyle M, Kinky Friedman, David Ramirez, Dutch Interior, Lola Kirke, Nico Paulo (EP), Lotta St. Joan & Claudio Donzelli, Liz Overs and Macie Stewart (full album only available on CD/Vinyl for now, digital release in three weeks).

A giant release week in Finland too led by the all time greats Jolly Jumpers. Their new album is utterly wonderful. There’s a lot of other great Finnish albums too. We have new ones from Lala Salama, Kaikki turhat haaveet, Nina Kaitaranta, Cats of Transnistria and Juha Mäki-Patola. Some singles gold too from Mitä helvettiä nyt taas, Idän mies, Lyyti, Saga Olsson and Icons of Elegance.

Some early faves in the international single category came from Will Johnson, Fonteyn, Scott Hirsch, Emilee Emiko, Reverend Baron, Moon Mullins, Moontype, Michael A. Muller (homage to David Lynch), Friendship, Esther Rose.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next week there’s two days of Satujuhlat here in Turku and something like 15 bands/artists live. So it might be a bit of struggle to make this that weekend. I will try, but I think it will go to late on Sunday and won’t be as deep as usual. If I’m too tired after two days of festivities, I’ll just cover two weeks with the next episode. Love.

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

OCTA Video Vault 2025 + Hectorine

I made another playlist. This time a YouTube playlist of 2025 music videos, because I’m a lazy music blogger and struggle to share them here on the actual blog. So I put some here until I get my act together. This is partly a reminder for myself what I need to feature, if I actually start writing more. I don’t really know how I will operate this and I know there’s stuff missing, because I just added what I could remember. Feel free to send stuff my way too. Maybe I will focus more on the actual music videos on this one instead of live stuff and lyric videos though. Both could work too, if I really love them. Maybe I could even pin this to the top here and just switch the first song every day, so you’ll have a new video of the day every time you visit. Maybe I ditch the idea altogether next week. Who knows.

Oh yeah and Bay Area songwriter Hectorine. I featured her debut album on the new music weekly when it came out in 2019 and while I liked it a lot, I still hadn’t paid enough attention to her music until now. But oh my. Now I’m borderline obsessed with her new song Is Love An Illusion?. It’s the first single from forthcoming album Arrow of Love that is due out 23rd of May on Take a Turn Records. That’s rightfully the first video on this playlist. After that you’ll get 50 or so 2025 music videos, if you hit play or follow the YouTube link.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #318

Another week, another new music weekly.

Gilbert Louie Ray and Charley Crockett can share the album of the week honors. Other big album releases came from Toria Wooff, Weaving, Liam Cole, Steven van Betten & Andrew Rowan (EP), Edwyn Collins, Ian M Bailey, Aux Meadows, Neal Francis, Charlie Marks, Dewey Lester & The 6:03, Easy Sevens, Todd Day Wait, Lone Striker and Dana Gavanski (EP).

The Finnish part of this has wonderful new albums from Pelko, Janeveera and Solemn Golem. Plus singles from Ahti Kulo, Aili Järvelä, Ilmi Lupiini, Joni Ekman & Koira, Kärmes and Jukka Takalo.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. A bit rushed episode, because anxious hockey following took my saturday. Thankfully summer vacation on that front now, because JYP is done for the season. I mean sure playoffs would have been lovely, but they didn’t really deserve it and playout would have been too nerve-wrecking. So being completely out of it until next fall suits me just fine. A bit more time for other things like music. Back next week. Love.

What a giant release week. I think there’s 29 international albums/EPs on this one. Way too much to fully listen in one weekend, but here’s what I managed to put together.
