OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #296

I was away for the weekend, so I didn’t have a whole lot of time for this. I’m sure I missed a lot, but here’s a quick late sunday night edition of the new music weekly.

Album of the week is the new one from long time favorite Adam Remnant. There’s also new albums from Willie Watson, Native Harrow, Jack Barksdale (EP), Golden Everything, Eliza Thorn, Nick Lowe & The Los Straitjackets, Lunar Vacation, Bad Moves, Nada Surf, Owen Marchildon, Sunbuzz (EP), Daryll-Ann, Rubber Band Gun, Allegra Krieger, Terra Spencer, Malin Pettersen (EP), Kevin Gordon, Mac Leaphart and Tim Poovey.

Big Finnish release week too led by the new Iron Country Sisters and Samanna albums. Love them both. Also great new albums from Saimaa, Papa Reino, Matti Salo Quartet plus singles gold by The New Tigers, Jari Raaste, Joose Keskitalo & The Mystic Revelation of Teppo Repo, Kanerva feat Asa and Rakkaudella Janne.

And lots international singles too. Some early favorites came from Andre Ethier, Juliet McConkey, Adeline Hotel, Alex Dupree, St. Lenox, Snowgoose, Julianna Riolino & Adrian Underhill.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Twenty three strikes on Tuesday, so maybe some blog anniversary posts this week. No other celebrations. Unless some unofficial ones like the Rosita Luu concert on Friday. Oh and Christopher Paul Stelling is in Finland this week. Go and see him. I’d love to, but pretty much impossible due to work. OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #295

What a monster release week. Way too much for a one guy to listen on one weekend or ever, but here’s some kind of take on what new is out and available.

MJ Lenderman and the late great Richard Laviolette can share the album of the week spot. There’s also great new albums from The Deslondes, Bob Sumner, Jeffrey Foucault, Elise Leavy, Wayne Graham, Young Scum, The Junipers, Peel Dream Magazine, Gold Star Gold Star, Love, Burns, JPW (EP), Tamar Berk, Dagwood (EP), Laura Jane Grace (EP), The Heavy Heavy, Björn Peter Thisell, Tami Neilson, The Peawees, Astrologer, PW Warson, Well Well Well, Oh Rose, Mo Kenney and John Blek.

A really big Finnish release week too led by the fabulous new albums from Rosita Luu and Kaita Isäri Seppälä. My big obsession earlier this week was the Huonosti puetut lapset EP that came out a month ago. I really love it and therefore I included a song here too. Credit to Lotta Savolainen and her Uusi ääni show on Radio Helsinki for that find. Other Finnish gems this week are albums from Eerie Deer, Iris Kukka and AK-77 plus singles from Susanna Leppänen, Sina Viola, Sanni Reilin (also a bit older one discovered from Uusi ääni), Joni Ekman, Cult of Stenman (new band led by Tom Stenman), Emilia Sisco and Cold Diamond & Mink, The Skiffs, Ilja Karsikas & Erik Bäckman and messier. Also revisiting a few awesome albums at the end of the playlist. I had to go back to Hattara too, because I finally saw them live on Friday and that was one of the highlights of my concert year. Oh how I love that band.

There was ridiculous amount of new albums, so the international singles are a bit buried on the second half of this monster playlist. But there’s plenty of great ones. Some early favorites came from Flora Hibberd, Sam Blasucci, Charlotte Cornfield, Christo Graham, The Innocence Mission, Zachary Lucky and Shelley Short. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. One more new music weekly as a 22 year old music blog. Soon twenty three strikes. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #293

The Softies has a new album. How lovely is that. Loved them so much during my indie kid days. And still do as a middle-aged americana guy. A great release week altogether as well. We have new albums from Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Chime School, The Secret Beach, Michael Cloud Duguay, Paige Plaisance, India Ramey, Rosy Boa (EP, a new one for me, but really liked this on quick listen), Wren Kitz, Andrew Combs, Bill (EP), Giant Day, The Medium, Benny Trokan, Emma Russack, Wild Ponies, Embla and the Karidotters, Ruthie Foster, Lydia Loveless (new versions of Somewhere Else songs) and Glenn Musto. Btw, Glenn has a couple of shows in Finland next week. Thursday in Helsinki and Friday in Turku.

The Finnish part is again my favorite, because there’s a new ITE EEROLA song in this world and in my heart. A shoulder to lean on right there. There’s also beautiful new singles from Lempi Elo, Henna Emilia Hietamäki, Saimaa, Joose Keskitalo & The Mystic Revelation of Teppo Repo and 1980 AD. Oh and at the end there’s another song from last week’s Hattara album.

International single of the week is the first one from the forthcoming new St.Lenox album. Check out the new music video too, because those are always great and this one has two cats and a dog too. What’s not to love. Other early faves came from Chris Acker, Fiver, Joanna Sternberg, Christian Lee Hutson, Jenina MacGillivray and Adam Selzer. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters when I ponder the essence of this music blog and playlist. This thing hits 23 years in less than a month. That’s a long time to invest on a small music blog. But most times it feels like it was worth it. This one was again a good live music week too, because I got to see The Darts (US), Nightbird and Faarao Pirttikangas. Can’t really beat live music. Anyway, back next week and all that. It will be late on Sunday then I think. Love love.

1. The Softies – Go Back in Time (The Bed I Made, Father/Daughter Records)
2. Chime School – Another Way Home (The Boy Who Ran the Painsley Hotel, Slumberland Records)
3. The Secret Beach – Natural Metaphor (We were born here, what’s your excuse, Victory Pool)
