OCTA 18th Anniversary – Mummypowder

Next we take our party gear back to Finland for a classic song from a band that has been part of this blog throughout all these years. I’m talking about Finnish indie band called Mummypowder and their frontman Janne Lehtinen who jumps on the festival stage to deliver a great acoustic version of Don’t Hold Your Breath from their 2004 album Consternation! Uproar!. There’s also a fabulous music video for the studio version of this song, so check that out after this beautiful acoustic performance.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Joe Algeri

Next we meet up with the Jack & The Beanstalk frontman, Joe ”big in Finland” Algeri in Perth, Australia. This Australian master of melody lived in Sweden during those early years of the blog and bravely tackled the vodka line cruise ships to play for us Finnish folks too. Hit on that bandcamp link to get a selection of the many thing he has done during the past few decades. Thanks for popping into our anniversary celebration Joe.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – The Sugarrush

We arrive into the the day 4 of the anniversary celebration somewhat tired, but it’s time to get the party started. Today’s the actual ”blog birthday”, so this baby of mine is now officially 18 years old and it’s able to vote, drive a car and drink responsibly. I’ll try to maintain some kind of leash so that things don’t go completely bonkers, but kids.. what’cha gonna do about it.

We will go directly to the foundation of the blog with this first song of the day. These faces might look familiar for those who have been with us since the opening day, but t-shirts are different and so is the singing language. This band is my all-time favorite The Sugarrush from Vaasa and their loud guitar pop albums in the late 90s and early 00s were a major inspiration when I started making One Chord To Another. Here’s an acoustic live version of Backstreet Girl. The original can be found from their Mirrorball Ballerinas album that came out in 2001.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Drew Danburry

We are wrapping up day 3 of our anniversary festival in Missoula, MT with barber and musician Drew Danburry. Drew’s also one of these lovely people that I’ve been in contact with on and off for about 15 years maybe, so it’s great to have him joining the birthday party. He made a two song Yellow Seahorse Session for our festival, so look for an encore later in the week. Drew Danburry’s first choice Yvonne comes from the 2012 album For All The Girls where every song had a name of a girl. Thank you for today and let’s sway into a new festival day with this 10-minute long treasure. Back tomorrow at 7pm for festival day 4. Hey, that’s even the actual birthday so then this officially 18 years old.
