Another week, another weekly playlist.

I’m sorry if I missed more stuff than usual. I spent a large chunk of time watching political debates and NHL playoffs and therefore did not have as much time as usual for listening and searching for new music. Some things are more important than music. And I’m not referring to the hockey playoffs.

My lack of time might have a lot to do with it, but I didn’t come across with as much great new music as usually. Maybe all labels/artists didn’t want to compete with the RSD releases. There were some big ones though like the wonderful new Damien Jurado album. Other new albums on the playlist are from John Paul White, Conor Donohue, Shovels & Rope, Adam Carroll, Taylor Alexander, Nick Eng, The Budos Band, Nicholas Mudd and April Verch.

Most of the Finland-related section is a week or two old, because yours truly found these a little late. The really big one for me is Astral Brain. Le Futur Pompiste’s Einar Ekström lives in Stockholm these days and have started a new project with Siri Af Burén. They released a gorgeous digital single From Above / The Field Trip a week ago. Other new Finnish releases are the EPs by Eden Prairie & Kami Mate and an album from The Black Ducks of Despair. I’m sure there had to be more, so hit me up if I forgot something important.

And last but not least, the new singles. I rarely have live versions on this playlist, but I have to make an exception, because I really like this live version of In Case I Fall For You by Black Sea Dahu. Joanna Sternberg is the new find of the week for me and I really like her song. Daniel Norgren, Aldous Harding and She Keeps Bees also continue to impress with new outtakes from their forthcoming albums. Everything else would be worthy of a namedrop too, because I like all of these songs.

The next playlist might or might not be up next Sunday. There definitely will be one, because a lot of great music will be released. Like the Anna Tivel album, which is one of my most anticipated releases of the spring. Anyway, it might be delayed a day or two due to easter. Or it might not. Anyway, that’s all for now. Another week, another weekly playlist.

This little playlist thing is getting out of hand and this contains 50 songs this week. Fully aware that nobody is going to listen the whole thing, but it proved to be too difficult to make it any shorter. Sorry about that, but I suppose it shouldn’t really matter. Listen as much as you desire and then move on to other things.

This week the albums by Weyes Blood, Charlotte Cornfield and Roseanne Reid were on the top of my list. All three are so great. Sure the Weyes Blood album does challenge my taste from time to time, but such a magical album is able to drag me away from my comfort zone. It’s good to expand one’s listening habits every now and then. Friday also brought new albums from Viking Moses, Rod Melancon, Jimbo Mathus, Lee Fields & Expressions, Martha, Sarchasm, Flying Fish Cove, Adam Ostrar, Simon Linsteadt, Molly Tuttle, Bohannons, The Prescriptions, Ages and Ages, The Proper Ornaments, Shana Cleveland, Swimming Bell, Lady Lamb and Kora Feder. Oh my, ain’t that enough. And then some say that there’s no new interesting music. I even had to leave a few objectively great ones that aren’t the closest thing to my own personal taste (like PUP and I Love Your Lifestyle for example). On the EP front, there’s the new one from Partner and a couple of weeks old Lily McKown EP.

The Finnish section is pretty small this time. There’s only a new single by Maanvaiva and a song from the new Pelko album. I’m sure there had to be more, but I just didn’t get the memo.

Favourite song/single of the week is the second outtake Pink Symphony from the forthcoming Bart album. Caroline Spence, Ian Noe, TK & The Holy Know-Nothings and Mammoth Penguins also released new singles from their forthcoming albums. I have super high expectations for all of those albums, because I’ve loved everything I’ve heard so far. Some of the week’s biggest music news for me were also that Darrin Bradbury signed with Anti- and released a new single and that Jake Xerxes Fussell has a new album coming out in June. All the other singles would be worthy of a namedrop just as well, because they are all on this playlist because I like them all.

Another week, another weekly playlist.

Last week this little playlist reached 100 followers, which is nice and gives a bit of motivation to continue this journey. Not that I have any desire to stop, because even though this takes hours to do every week, I’ve learned a lot by doing it and trying to find all interesting new releases has really expanded my listening habits. Sure I still miss a ton of new stuff, but at least a bit less than before.

There were lots of interesting new albums and I’ve only skimmed through some of these at this point. My most anticipated for this week were the new albums from long time favourites M. Lockwood Porter and Steven Lambke. That’s just a tip of the mountain though and there were also new albums from Jo Schornikow, Lost Dog Street Band, Nathan Seeckts, Son Volt, Ohtis, German Error Message, Laura Stevenson, Chris Cohen, Thayer Sarrano, Marry Waterson & Emily Barker, Weston Harris Hill, Paul Otteson (bonus points to Paul for writing a dinosaur themed album for ukulele and somehow making it work), Nightmarathons, Mekons, Eric Bolander and Tim Bluhm. Damn it took a while to even write that list, let alone listen to all of them. Dark Tea’s album came out a week ago, but I missed it then. It’s gorgeous, so I added a song this week.

A few great EPs too. Courtney Marie Andrews released an EP of acoustic versions of some of the highlights of her masterful 2018 albums, Emily Brown released some b-sides from her 2018 album sessions and then there were also the Garden Sessions from Kasey Anderson. NY-based band The Weird Years and artist Bill Waters and Danish songwriter Jacob Faurholt are less familiar to me, but I really like these new EPs.

The Finnish section in the middle revisits the wonderful Sur-rur album and features the new albums by Pekko Käppi & K:H:L:L and J.A.Mäki. Two new singles from long time favorites V.Härkönen and H.C.Slim. The last one might not bring a bell, but if you listen you’ll find a familiar voice just singing in English this time around.

There was a bit less space for singles, because there were so many albums and EPs. But there’s a few important ones like the new songs from Micah Schnabel, Craig Finn, Bedouine, Run Coyote, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Justin Townes Earle, Partner and Koda Feder. Oh and Christopher Gold & The New Old Things deserve some sort of culture award for releasing a great song every two weeks. A crazy project and it’s even crazier that they can keep the quality so high all the time.

Ian Daniel Kehoe reappears, because the album is so good. That’s all for now. Take care, remember love.
