Joseph Huber – Tongues Of Fire

I really need to start writing this blog again. I’ve been listening to a lot of great albums during the past few months, but have only written about a couple of them. One of the criminally neglected albums is Joseph Huber’s second solo album Tongues Of Fire. Joseph Huber used to play banjo and fiddle in The .357 String Band and he was also one of the songwriters (responsible for the wonderful The Days Engrave for example). I never got totally into the dark solo debut, but I’m definitely falling for Tongues Of Fire. Wonderful songwriting and a fair share of old-timey charm. Hello, Milwaukee and An Old Mountain Tune have been the biggest favourites so far. This one below is An Old Mountain Tune. Listen/buy at bandcamp or cdbaby or follow my path and ask your local record store to order a copy for you.

Binoculers – There Is Not Enough Space In The Dark

Moving on to Hamburg, Germany. Nadja Rüdebusch aka Binoculers has a new album There Is Not Enough Space In The Dark coming out november 2nd on Insular Music. I’ve been listening to it all week long and I really like it. Minimal, fragile folk music that easily finds it’s way into the core of my heart. How can something so minimal be so mesmerizing. This is the first outtake from the album. A lovely song and a beautiful video. This is Monsters.

Video of the Day #111: Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson

Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson have a new album. I wasn’t aware of that until today. Actually I’ve never been that impressed with either of them as a solo artist (ok, I’ve only tried a few songs here and there), but together they are rather brilliant. The previous duo album Rattlin’ Bones was an instant hit in this household. Now this married couple has finally released a new album entitled Wreck & Ruin. Already out in Australia I think and US release will follow later in october. This is the first single Adam & Eve.

I Was A King – You Love It Here

Alert! Perfect pop music! It’s 11.45 pm and I have a ten hour work day coming up tomorrow. So I’ll keep things short and pretty much just repeat what I said on twitter a day or two ago. If you love pop music, you need to hear the new I Was A King album You Love It Here. Norwegians Frode Strømstad, Anne Lise Frøkedal, Ole Reidar Gudmestad have created an amazing pop album with the help of Norman Blake and Robyn Hitchcock. This is a world class pop album. Excellent songwriting, truly stunning vocals. Now that’s how you sing. I hope my physical copy arrives from Norway sometime soon. Meanwhile I have to settle for Spotify. But someone really has to release this outside Norway. This is way too perfect to remain as a secret. Five hearts for sure. This is the wonderful opener Frozen Disease. The rest of the album is equally magnificent.
