Another week, another new music weekly. This time also on Apple Music, because my iPhone wanted to give me two free months. But do note that this is only a temporary thing for the next two months, because I don’t have the money to pay for many services. Those things add up and I don’t get a dime for curating this. I guess if it somehow becomes popular there, I could consider keeping it but based on my few previous tries on that platform it seems extremely unlikely.
Mod Lang is the album of the week. Well actually it’s from last week but better late than never. I heard the singles actually then, but somehow assumed that the album was this week. Anyway, marvellous power pop / rock’n’roll blast. Absolutely love it. Mod Lang is not on Spotify, so there’s another good reason to make a switch to another platform. Some other big ones are albums from Bill Callahan and Jackie West and the EP from Michael Cormier-O’Leary. Other album gems came from Paper Wings, Buck Meek, The Wave Pictures, The Legal Matters, Armbruster, Heavenly, Mitski, Star Moles, Voxtrot, Market, Iron & Wine, Crooked Fingers, Zachary Lucky, Matt Mitchell Music Co (EP) and Shane Parish. Outside the streaming platforms it’s very much worth noting that Adeem the Artist has a great new album on Bandcamp. Oh yeah, and a few of those deluxe versions from Julianna Riolino, Dean Johnson and Michael Robert Murphy. Sometimes I don’t include these, but this time I did.
Finnish side of things has a great album from Anna Inginmaa and an EP from J.Matkala. Plus some singles gold from Janne Tapion Sisäinen Avaruus, Annieeva & Topi Saha, Nevala, Ghosts on TV, Antti Autio, Mikko Juvosen Kanuuna, Kurja Valentin, Mutka and Aleksi Oksanen.
New I’m Kingfisher is the international single of the week. Other early faves came from Bobby Dove, Sluice, Kevin Carducci, Corey Parsons, Opal Eskar, Dream Sitch, Chet Sounds, Roller One, Daniel Romano’s Outfit… again just to name a few.
