Video of the Day #46: Matthew Hornell and The Diamond Minds

Matthew Hornell and The Diamond Minds is a folk rock group from St.Johns, Canada and Red Crescent is a wonderful song from their self-titled debut album. They also seem to have a lot of pop sense and there’s plenty of catchy melodies on the album. Therefore pop fans should be able to enjoy this one equally well. The video is from Mitch Fillion’s wonderful Southern Souls video blog. You can watch another Matthew Hornell video there (and a whole lot of other great videos).

News: The Mommyheads touring in Finland

American pop group The Mommyheads is about to hit these shores this weekend and play a couple of shows with some great Finnish support acts Bookends, Flannelmouth and The Everglades. They are a very fine band although I must admit that I’m only familiar with their Geffen released self-titled album from 1997. That was a really good pop album even though I don’t think it sold that well (good music rarely does). Some of their earlier stuff seem to be on spotify, so I need to do some background work on that. The band split up in 1998, but reformed a couple of years ago and are making new music. Their latest album Delicate Friction is due out March 18, 2011 on Dead Frog Records in Scandinavia. Check out their latest single Another Crowded House from the upcoming album below.

Video of the Day #45: Huck Notari

A week ago I was travelling to my hometown in a bus with Huck Notari’s beautiful album Very Long Dream as my companion and once again I fell in love with his songs. The album was released back in 2009, so this isn’t a new release. However, Huck Notari is so criminally unknown that he deserves a late love letter. I adore the whole album and I’m totally addicted to the beauty of the songs called I Want To Win and Wall Around Your Heart. I don’t think there’s a video for I Want To Win so let’s focus on the latter one. Wall Around Your Heart is one of my favourite break-up songs ever released. It’s such a beautifully crafted little song. I love the fact that I can’t really hear any anger or bad will towards “her” and no matter how broken the character in the song is, I know that he will end up being alright. This song is worth of all hearts in the world and Huck Notari from Portland, Oregon is a wonderful folk singer-songwriter.

News: Ove Ritola

Ove Ritola’s new EP Sunday Morning is available for free download. It was originally recorded for a project trying to bring more life with a means of art to a hospital ward for the long term ill. The result of the recordings is very beautiful and stylewise reminds me a bit of Album Leaf’s album In A Safe Place. You can download it for free from the website below.
