OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #202

Another week, another new music weekly.

This new music weekly is back on Apple Music for the next two months. So if you’ve been missing it, there’s some good news for you. Unfortunately it will only be temporary and most likely disappears again in mid-November, because I can’t afford to pay subscription fees to multiple streaming services. I rather give that money to the local record store. So it will be two month run unless it becomes immensely popular over there. And based on last run I know it won’t. So listen while you can and tell your Apple Music friends. One day I would also like to give Qobuz a go. Just to test drive the app and see whether it’s better, as good/bad or worse than other services.

The album of the week is the new beautiful monster from Daniel Romano’s Outfit. Pretty much unplaylistable (is that a word), because it’s just one song in two parts. Therefore I used to earlier single excerpt on the playlist. New albums from Charley Crockett, Scott Ballew and JPW were also on top of my list for this week. Then there’s also excellent new ones from Rachel Angel, Thorsten Nesch (EP), Snow Coats, Jason McCue, The Boys With Perpetual Nervousness, Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Marlon Williams, Futurebirds & Carl Broemel, Air Waves, Jake La Botz, GA-20, Laura Benitez and the Heartache, Damn Tall Buildings, The Deer, lund and Mayya.

The Finnish section is tiny, but the quality is high. The debut single from Heta Narkaus is the highlight along with the second single from The Skiffs. And yeah I do have a soft spot for Olavi Uusivirta and his new album is again really good. Plus I also added one more song from the ITE EEROLA album.

My favorite song of the week has been the new awesome Melissa Carper single. You better not finish your AOTY lists in early November, because the album is due out on the 18th of November. I’m already reserving a spot for Ramblin’ Soul on my list. I’m also a big fan of Terry’s Paradise and their new single. New EP on the horizon there. Other early single favorites came from Courtney Marie Andrews, 2nd Grade, I Was a King, Tedo Stone, Tommy Prine (beautiful debut single from John Prine’s son), Caleb Caudle, Hallelujah the Hills, Isla Craig and Terra Spencer & Ben Caplan. Again just to name a few and future spins will dictate what will become the biggest personal faves.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. By the time of the next new music weekly, this blog will be 21 years old. Kinda crazy if you ask me. Yet here I still am and I guess will be for the foreseeable future. Love from a distance.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.
