OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #340

A bit less heavy release week, but somehow I still I ended up with 65 songs. I might be in trouble during the busy September / October release schedule.

New Forrest VanTuyl is be the album of the week. There’s also new albums from Robbie Fulks, Ry Jennings, Greazy Alice (EP), Minta & The Book Trout, Big Thief, Small Forward, John Myrtle, Alien Eyelid, Cory Cross, Curtis Harding, Gwenifer Raymond, Brian Dunne and Grant Lee Phillips. Plus a beautiful tribute to Jason Molina. I don’t often feature the tribute albums here, because these are already longer than anyone will listen. But I love Jason Molina and a lot of big favorite artists on the album too. So an exception to the rule is in order.

On the Finnish side of things, we have albums from KIUSA, Lyyti, Metsäheikki and Nössö Nova. Plus singles from Michael Bleu, Hamina, Brian, Neiti Olga and Terika.

The big news of the week was that there is a new posthumous Luke Bell double album in the works. First single is now out and that’s of course the international single of the week. Make sure you also check out the lovely music video that Mike Vanata made from archive footage. Other big early favorites came from Jordan Smart, Alex Amen, Vanity Mirror, Lena Bartels, Dylan Earl, Corey Parsons, Julie Doiron, Daniel Romano, Rambling Nicholas Heron… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. One more next week is an 23 year old music blog. Then 24 strikes. No plans to celebrate this year, but probably should come up with something for the forthcoming 25 year jubilee. Because that’s a long time to do anything, let alone a music blog. Love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.
