Another week, another new music weekly. Some are already making year-end lists, but I will continue making these weekly playlists for a little while longer. Some great things still coming out like the Haley Heynderickx and Max García Conover album next week. There will definitely be a 3-4 week break from the playlist around the Christmas / Holiday season. I need a few weeks off and that’s always the best time to do that, because the release schedule isn’t as heavy as usual.
This is a big week, because the Mia Wilson album is now out and available. That’s definitely the album of the week and well one of my biggest favorites of the whole year too. You will find it really high on the AOTY list, if I’m making a ranked version. Such a beautiful album. Extremely highly recommended. There’s also new albums from Tony Molina, Colter Wall, I Was A King (not on Spotify), Spencer Radcliffe, Casper Allen, Dan Spencer (this was last week), Andrew Daly Frank, Tiberius, Tim Hill, Courtney Hartman, Jake Xerxes Fussell & James Elkington, Rick Maddocks, Abigail Flowers, Sweet Nobody (also last week) and Sunny Intervals (EP).
A bit shorter Finnish section this time around. We have an album from Matti Sakari and singles from Sweatmaster, Heidi Elmgren (double single), Oiro Pena (well the album has been available on Bandcamp and vinyl for a few months, but at least one song is now streaming too so I shared it) and Timo Kämäräinen. I’m sure there had to be more.
Some early favorites on the international singles category came from Bill Callahan, Lefty Parker, Melissa Carper & Theo Lawrence, Joey Frendo, Matt Mitchell Music Co, Kevin Carducci, Aviva Le Fey, Leah Senior (not on Spotify), Beaucoup Dolores.. again just to name a few.
That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Also reached another milestone too with this episode #350. If it takes average of five hours to make one, that’s 1750 hours spent on new music curation. Just for the sheer love of it. Probably could have spent that time more wisely, but don’t think it has been worthless either. What platforms this should be on is of course very questionable. I fully support and respect all the artists and listeners who have left Spotify. I subscribed to Tidal during the first wave few years, because I wanted to provide an alternative. Unfortunately it still feels that there’s only a handful of listeners there. So there continues to be a bit of a dilemma. Keeping this on Spotify is very difficult to justify, but it would also be difficult to justify spending 5 hours every weekend on something that just a few people could hear.
I guess the options would be to either keep both available at least until a bigger movement away from the platform happens or ditch Spotify and either completely stop making the playlist or make some less time consuming version of it on Tidal or Qobuz. I really don’t know which option would be better for the small artists that I love and try to support as well as I can. And yeah, on a personal level, I buy a lot of vinyl, merch and concert tickets. Much more than I really should with my low end factory job salary. It’s just what would be best way of support with the blog/playlist. Anyway, I’ll finish this year this with the current way. There’s time to ponder the essence of life and this playlist during the holiday break. Love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:
Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you
I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.
