OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #392

Another week, another new music weekly.

The album of the week is the new album by Briar. A new wonderful band / project led by Daniel Romano. This one is not on Spotify. So grab an LP or download or stream it elsewhere. Also note to self to ask the local store, if they are able to order the vinyl for me. New Sam Burton is another big one for me and quite a good companion for the Briar LP too. There’s also great new albums / EPs from Panamint (EP), Aaron Frazer (EP), Chanele McGuinness, Danielle Fricke, Charlie Kaplan, Lydia Loveless (EP), Eliza Edens, Big Riverz, Fanny Lumsden, Wyld Gooms, Stop Hitting Yourself, Aluminum, Mike Viola, Lane Hartley, The National Honor Society, Gurry Wurry, Stephen Steinbrink, Isik Kural, Mike James Kirkland & Monophonics, 2nd Grade (full album is not streaming), Ben Vaughn & Deer Tick, Country Risque, Kaitlin Butts, Ags Connolly, Hunter Flynn and Miko Marks.

Finnish side has a whole lot of Ove, because Ove Ritola turned 50 this week and celebrated it by releasing music from eight different bands. I included The Royal Piss (single), Graceskull (EP) and Mitä helvettiä nyt taas (single) here, but all of them are great. Ok, maybe the archive release of the first band is not in my wheelhouse, but I recommend all the others. New Lätsä single is another big fave. Also really dig the new albums from Stinako feat Njet Njet 9 and Jussi Suonikko. The latter one is a rarity, because it’s atmospheric album composed for octave violin. Other Finnish gems are album from Saaramaija Zorawski and singles from Piip, Paula ja Olli and Maa ilmasta.

New Chris Acker can be the international single of the week. Some other early faves came from Dalton Mills, Iain Micah Weigert, Charlotte Le Lievre, Tom Henry.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Back next week with another of these. It will be a big week that will shake my at this point imaginary AOTY lists. New Sylvie and Willi Carlisle coming up for example. I thought maybe give a Qobuz another run too and include the last month and a half of weekly playlists and the AOTY lists there too. We’ll see. Love.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.
