New songs from Carmen & The Devil

Carmen & The Devil, The finest Finnish country/folk duo has some new songs for you. You might have heard these new Carmen & The Devil originals on their stunningly beautiful live concerts during the recent months, but now they’ve added the songs to their Soundcloud as well (there’s also a limited edition cassette that contains these new tunes, but that might be a bit tricky to find). This wonderful band will be mostly investigating the Austrian old time country scene for the next couple of years, but let’s hope they manage to get that debut album done and dusted sometime during 2012. That’s going to be a thing of beauty. The new songs are Tell-Tale Heart and Row Row and you’ll find them below. Hit the soundcloud link, if you haven’t heard the older ones, because those are equally amazing.

Heartjet – Grace / World

Today was a good day. Early morning football and when I returned home, I found two new Heartjet songs. I injected them into my heart through headphones and instantly fell in love with them. The songs are entitled Grace and World and you can download them for free on their bandcamp. The new songs are bit less powerpoppin’ than the debut EP, but equally wonderful pop music. Just bit more serene and beautiful this time around. I hope they get the debut album out and available sometime next year. I’ve just loved them since the day the myspace request hit my inbox back in 2009 and the feeling is getting stronger every day.

Kevin – A Lonely Place

Kevin are returning to this ball game and a brand new Kevin album is due out in early 2012. The first outtake from the upcoming album is a free digital single entitled A Lonely Place and it is now out and available. I’m looking forward to the album, because even though I love digging the old treasures from the Shindig! magazine, it will be great to get some new Finnish music with 60’s psych/garage flavours.

Flavour of the Month goes Punk: 1981 + Folk-Valto

Flavour of the Month takes place next friday 4th of november at Pikku-Torre, Turku. Legendary troubadour Folk-Valto and a great punk band 1981 will share the stage. These are songs from the magnificent 1981 EP. Press release in Finnish below will take care of the facts.

FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH GOES PUNK

Indieklubi Flavour Of The Month tunnetaan lähinnä kitarapopin ja folk/country-tunnelmoinnin pää-äänenkannattajana Turun livemusiikkikentällä, mutta aika ajoin klubi tekee hallittuja harharetkiä vaihtoehtomusiikin ja alakulttuurien laajan spektrin eri sektoreille.

Marraskuun Flavourissa seikkaillaan agitoivan ja tummasävyisen punkin maisemissa, kun turkulainen 1981 tekee paluun FOTM-lavalle. Paikallisia, monissa liemissä marinoituja soittajahahmoja sisältävä bändi yhdistelee nimensäkin mukaisesti 80-luvun alun uusi aalto- ja jälkipunkvärinöitä popimpiin sävyihin ja kulmikkaaseen yhteiskunnallisuuteen. Yhtyeen Bandcamp-sivulla kuultavat uudet biisit antavat ymmärtää soinnin hieman keventyneen sitten viime kuuleman, mutta lopullinen livetotuus selviää vasta perjantaina 4.11. Pikku-Torressa.

Illan on luvannut tulla avaamaan legendaarinen Folk-Valto, alias turkulaisen indiepopin jokapaikanhöylä Valtteri Virtanen (mm. Goodnight Monsters, The New Tigers, Hell Cat), joka vielä edellisellä 1981:n FOTM-vierailulla oli yhtyeen jäsen! Tällä kertaa ex-81 lämmittää lauteet vanhoille bändikavereilleen soolosetillään, joka saattaa sisältää lähes mitä tahansa, ehkä jopa tarunhohtoisen, hämmentävästi yhä ajankohtaisen sillanrakennuseepoksen Penny Bridge!
