News: Soliti – A new record label

The big news of the day was that Nick Triani launched a new label Soliti and signed Astrid Swan, Cats On Fire, The New Tigers, Black Twig and Big Wave Riders. Nick Triani did some excellent work as an A&R guy at Johanna Kustannus and I was far from pleased when I heard the news that Universal bought the label and made some big changes. Therefore it’s a wonderful thing that Nick Triani launched a new label and gave home to five indie bands that really deserved a record contract. Things will kick of with Astrid Swan’s Pavement cover album Hits (Pavement For Girls) late summer / autumn.

News: Kim Curly Band

One of the finest Finnish americana bands Kim Curly Band just released the first single New York from the upcoming second album (due to be released in september). Oh and Passerby from the excellent debut album recently featured in a Hollywood movie 5th Quarter. Which is pretty cool even if you concider the fact that the movie itself probably isn’t a brilliant work of art like Zerkalo or Fletch and Kim Curly Band’s wonderful song is pretty much the only reason you might want to watch that film.

News: Johnny Superhero

During the last few years Antti Reikko has been releasing soft and beautiful songs under his solo moniker Koria Kitten Riot, but he can still master the art of guitar pop and indie rock equally well. His band Johnny Superhero returns to this ball game with a new album entitled Homes. The album was released last week by Solmu Records and you can watch the music video Botox Babies below. You can listen to three other songs from the album on their website.

News: The Wonderminers, Karhumauri

The Wonderminers have released their debut EP. Currently you can only get it from iTunes, but other digital retailers should pick it up soon. EP will be full of high-quality guitar pop and it’s definitely a must buy for me. Check out this amazing song Stars in The Window below (and more on their soundcloud page).

Karhumauri’s frontman Mauri Heikkinen used to operate under the name Drowsy and released two great folk albums on the highly acclaimed UK label Fat Cat Records. Now he has changed the language to Finnish and started a new group called Karhumauri. I really liked Drowsy and therefore it’s not a big surprise that I seem to enjoy this new direction as well. Their self-titled debut album will be released today 18th of may by Helmi Levyt. Here’s a song called Saimaalla from that album. Check out another great song on the label’s soundcloud page.
