Another week, another weekly playlist.

I’m pretty pathetic and hopeless. Another week flew by without a single blog post. I need to get my act together, because I have a like a gazillion of albums that I want to write about before it’s time for the end of the year lists. Whether I get it together remains to be seen. Meanwhile let’s dive into the best new music of the week.

The new Laura Gibson album Goners became an instant favorite. It’s early and I’ve only lived a few days with it on my side, but I’m already convinced that it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard all year. Might even the best. Other really big album releases for me were the new ones from Adeline Hotel, Jamie Lin Wilson and Nick Dittmeir & The Sawdusters. The week also brough intriquing new albums from Ian Sweet, Hush Kids, Carson McHone, Anna Stine, The Skiffle Players, David Benedict, Martha Spencer, Jon Hatchett Band, Nicholas Krgovich and Mr Husband. Colyn Cameron’s excellent solo album (Wake Owl) is a few weeks old, but I missed it back then. Not a whole lot of EPs on the playlist this week, but the Boygenius EP is of course incredible. Dead Gowns EP is some months old, but I just got the memo earlier in the week.

Anna Tivel’s single from her forthcoming album is the song of the week. There’s also great ones from Doug Paisley, Matthew McNeal, Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers, Leafy Seadragon, Patrick Dethlefs and Stephen Kellogg.

Not a whole lot of Finnish stuff this week, but there’s a song from the gorgeous New Silver Girl that came out on Soliti this week. Plus songs from the latest Kynnet and Pää kii albums that came out earlier in October.

Another week, another weekly playlist.

The usual apologies about the lack of blog posts. I was just too tired and didn’t have enough brain capacity to write anything even remotely interesting. I still don’t give up on these pointless weekly playlists though. So here’s another one featuring the best new music I heard during the week.

The new Becky Warren album Undesirable was the key new album release for me. However, there were also so much more and Friday brought new albums from Belle Plaine, Martha Scanlan, Drew Beskin, Jr Thomas & The Volcanos, Karine Polwart, Scott Orr, Steady Hands, Hillstomp and The Brother Brothers. I’m also very fond of the Black Sea Dahu album that came out a week ago. I just found it yesterday (thanks Karen). Hermina Jean’s EP has also been out since late August, but I heard it earlier this week and instantly liked it a lot.

The singles were brilliant this week and the list starts with singles from four artists that are really dear to me. The Weather Station and Jennifer Castle collaboration on Paradise of Bachelors was so special that I had to put both song on this. The new ones from Daniel Romano and Twain were also really special. Of course all other ones would also be worth mentioning. They are on the list, because I really like them.

Some Finnish stuff again. There’s the excellent final single from Skip Zone and songs from the new albums from Kiki Pau, J.Karjalainen, Rosita Luu and Kynnet (the last two are from last week, I’m ashamed that I missed Kynnet back then).

I was away for the weekend, so this was pushed until Monday this time around. Sorry if you thought that I had come to my senses and had given up on this. I probably missed even more good stuff than normally, but here’s the new stuff that caught my ear.

My most anticipated album releases this week were the new Anna St Louis, Colter Wall, Extra Arms and Valley Maker albums. Ever More Nest was the completely new find for me. Never heard of Ever More Nest before, but the album is very impressive. There were also excellent new album from Yowler, Annie Oakley, Mark Edgar Stuart, John Hiatt, Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles, Dusty Stray and The Bottle Rockets. And again lots of last week’s releases make another appearance with a new song.

There were some great Finnish albums as well. So if you are not scared of beautiful Finnish language, check out the new albums from Rosita Luu, Liljankukka, Rami Vierula and Vuoret.

The biggest new singles were the new one from the Swedish power pop heroes The Genuine Fakes and the new one from Scott Hirsch. Obviously all the other ones would also be worth a namedrop, but the Finland – Greece football game is about to start in a just few minutes. All the best.
