OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #268

Here we are again with another episode of this crazy project. Not on Apple Music anymore though. So just Tidal and Spotify at least for now. And well YouTube, but I haven’t really promoted that much. But someone else had transferred them there, so I might as well do that myself. Feel free to transfer this yourself too wherever you want, if you are using a different platform but want to listen this new music weekly.

I can’t really pick one this week, so Desiree Cannon, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Vanessa Peters can share the album of the week honors. All great albums. Other new albums this week came from Mary Timony, Apollo Ghosts (EP), Real Estate, Leslie Stevens, Andrew Jobin, Amigo the Devil, Bill Fay Group (reissue) and Wharfer.

My favorite new Finnish releases are the great new single from Nightbird and the awesome new albums from Ruissalo Amping and Kot-kat. A really good Finnish music week altogether, because there’s also beautiful new singles from V.Härkönen, Kaspar, The Southgates, Haaveet, Otto Mikkola & Pitkä Ikävä, Punomo and Pykäri.

The international song of the week is the new one from Hello Emerson. What a beauty of a song and the music video is also very special. Absolute love everything about it. Other big early faves came from Drew Beskin, Quinn Pilgrim, Ken Pomeroy, Loose Collars, Golden Everything, Pernice Brothers feat Neko Case and AC Sapphire. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. All of it matters, if you want this to continue. Whether it’s worth it to continue making this playlist is a weekly internal battle between my brain and heart. So far heart has won, but brain keeps throwings curve balls full of self-doubt. Love and all.

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #267

Another a bit delayed quick new music weekly.

Big release week, because one of my all-time favorite bands has a new album out there. They are Frontier Ruckus and their gorgeous new LP is the album of the week. Other great album releases came from The Infinites, Laura Jane Grace, Jordan Lee King, Brennan Edwards (this was very late 2023, but I just found it), Matthew Logan Vasquez, Danielle Durack, Lola Kirke (EP), Katherine Priddy, Grandaddy, Molly Lewis and Louien.

Excellent Finnish release week too. Joonas Hauveli, Anis Kiitu and Rebekka Holi all released beautiful new albums and then there’s also lovely singles from Ethel Suspense, Kot-kat, Waver, Klara LaFleur, Kaksipäinen koira, Rohkeat Kuvat and Pratt & Moody feat Cold Diamonk & Mink.

International single of the week is the debut single from Wonder Women of Country (aka Kelly Willis, Melissa Carper, and Brennen Leigh) or the new single from The Lostines. Love both of these for sure. Other early faves came from Sierra Ferrell, Charlie Parr, Eric Long, Lilly Hiatt, Tim Easton and Mammoth Penguins. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. This one will be the last one on Apple Music for now, because my subscription ends late next week and I’m too broke to pay for many services. Back next week. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #266

Sorry for the delay. Busy weekend, but here’s a quick new music weekly just before Super Bowl kick off. I ended the Qobuz experiment for now, so this is not there anymore. I really liked the app and might eventually return. I think it would be my go-to platform, if I quit making this playlist and only cared about my own listening, but right now it makes more sense to stay where the listeners are.

Maybe a bit slower release week, but there’s a few special ones for sure. Ivan Macleod made the album of the week. Other great album releases came from Itasca, Brittany Howard, Ducks Ltd, Madi Diaz and Tyler Ramsey.

The big one from Finland is the new Antti Autio album. Also very much in love with the new Viitasen Piia single. Other Finnish gems are singles from Reetta Hotti, Samoaja, AURAL, Saa Kiljua ja Sami Yaffa.
