First Aid Kit

Today I noticed that my favourite record store 8raita had this on their website in the staff recommends section.  I didn’t have clue what it was, but because they  have an excellent taste in music I checked it out. I found out that First Aid Kid is Klara & Johanna Söderberg. 16 and 19 year old sisters from Sweden. They seem to be extremely talented, because they have already written some great acoustic folk songs. You don’t necessarily have to be a fan of folk music to enjoy this. I think this might work well for indie popsters as well. I mean how could one not love these lovely videos below..

They also make a killer version of Fleet Foxes’ Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. You’ll find that one and the ones above also from their myspace.

The Satelliters

The Satelliters is a german band who is stuck in the 60’s. But in a good way. It’s a band that I’ve known for a couple of years, but I still haven’t bought their records. However, every now and then I go their myspace to check out is there something new going on. This is what I did tonight and found this promo video of their upcoming 7″ single Lost In Time. I loved it so I thought I share it with you. Sounds more like an outtake from Nuggets box set than a new song doesn’t it. A good garage rock blast from the past. Eventhough it’s not the past. It’s actually the present.

Finnish music videos from the vaults part 3: Penniless & Mummypowder

Penniless: Adam’s Apple Pie

Penniless is a fabulous band that usually installs plenty of melodic beauty into their blissfully twisted rock songs. Adam’s Apple Pie wonderfully shows their pop sense and it might be my favourite Penniless song eventhough they have a huge amount of great songs under their belt. Adam’s Apple Pie is from their excellent Anola album that was released back in 2001.

Mummypowder: Don’t Hold Your Breath

You can also file this one under excellent finnish guitar pop. Don’t Hold Your Breath is the opening track of Mummypowder’s marvellous third album Consternation! Uproar! that was released in 2004. Mummypowder is certainly among the greatest finnish guitar pop bands and hopefully they will eventually return with the fourth album that has been in the working state for quite a while.
