The Lieblings – It’s All Gonna Fall

lieblingsi

I’ve been otherwise engaged lately, but things like this can’t go completely unnoticed. This is marvellous Finnish pop music and at least once this website was all about great Finnish pop music. And obviously The Lieblings contains Coma and Andy from my all-time favourite Finnish band The Sugarrush. Anyway, The Lieblings are a fuzzy pop group from Helsinki and recently they signed a record deal with GAEA Records / Exogenic Music Group. The debut album Take Us To Your Leader will hit the stores and our hearts in august 2013. The first outtake from the upcoming album, It’s All Gonna Fall was released some days ago. You can heart this great tune below.

Robin Pahlman – Miss Lonelyhearts (single out now)

pahlman

The update frequency on this blog is still rather disgraceful, but this debut single by Finnish indie folk artist Robin Pahlman is something so thrilling that even a lazy blogger like yours truly has to write a news entry about it. Robin Pahlman is a highly talented Finnish singer-songwriter who has previously made great music with rock group Agent Kooper and country duo Carmen & The Devil. This debut single Miss Lonelyhearts is a magnificent start for his new adventure. I posted the early demo version of this song Miss Lonelyhearts back in 2012, but this real thing was released as a digital single on 19th of april. You can get it at least from iTunes. Robin Pahlman is currently having a small release tour in Austria and Germany (he lives in Vienna these days). Check out the remaining dates below in case you are able to attend. In case catching a plane from Finland to Austria/Germany just to see Robin’s live perfomance isn’t on your agenda, you can watch his excellent Couch by Couchwest performance by clicking this link.

April 23 Wels (Black Horse Inn)
April 24 Linz(Café Smaragd)
April 25 Stuttgart(Bar Sideways)

And this is the new single Miss Lonelyhearts.

Linnusto

linnusto

Just before going to bed I want to share the songs that I’ve loved the most today. Linnusto followed me on Soundcloud a few days ago. I didn’t know who he was, but I hit the play button sometime late last night. Suddenly familiar, warm voice and beautiful songs floated through the headphones into my veins and Linnusto won my heart over in a few seconds. Since then I’ve listened the songs around ten times and my relationship with the songs is only getting stronger. This is En eksy tässä kaupungissa enää. You’ll find the other equally great song Hietaniemi from his Soundcloud.

Thanks For Giving A Damn with Otis Gibbs

otis

Lately I’ve been mostly listening to these Thanks For Giving a Damn with Otis Gibbs podcasts. I listened all 23 episodes within a week and I really loved spending quality time with Otis and his friends. All of these podcasts are very entertaining. Even when I didn’t knew the person beforehand. Some favourites were Motown engineer Bob Olhsson sharing his memories, Richard Dobson talking about Heartworn Highways and Townes Van Zandt, Phil Kaufman on Gram Parsons, Charles Manson etc and a lot of great current singer-songwriters like Slaid Cleaves, Lydia Loveless, Ray Wylie Hubbard. I guess I could list them all, because favourite one was always the one I was listening to at the time. I’m looking forward to the upcoming episodes. Thanks for Giving a Damn with Otis Gibbs is available for free on iTunes. If you don’t care for iTunes, you can listen to them on Otis Gibbs website.

Otis Gibbs is also a great singer-songwriter himself. I own his two latest albums Joe Hill’s Ashes and Harder Than Hammered Hell. Both are excellent. There’s one song from each below. Made to Break from the latest Harder Than Hammered Hell and Kansas City from Joe Hill’s Ashes. Maybe I should go and order the older ones as well.
