Treehouse – Top to Bottom

Treehouse released their excellent debut album Top to Bottom on 12th of may. This is country-flavoured pop perfection and one of my favourite Finnish releases of the year. Ok, maybe I shouldn’t get too excited at this point, because so far I’ve only spent one day with the album. But no, that’s not the way we work here at the onechord.net headquarters. I love to get excited about music and albums like Top to Bottom are the reason why this website exists. This just ticks all the right boxes for me. Wonderful vocals, sweet harmonies, beautiful melodies and stylish playing. And a banjo. I’m very much into albums like this or The Decline by Elvyn (obviously extremely useful to namedrop a Canadian band that only a few have heard around these parts of the globe, but everyone should, because The Decline is a masterpiece). Top to Bottom is already available on iTunes and Spotify. There’s a CD version as well, but I’m not sure will that hit the stores or is it only available on concerts / directly from the band. Here are two beautiful songs from the new album.

Mikael H & The Siberians – The President Of Venice Beach

I’m quickly going through the important things that happened while I was watching the hockey playoffs, because I’m way behind at the moment. One major event was that Helmi Levyt released the long-waited new Mikael H & The Siberians album The President of Venice Beach in mid-april. This one below is Friends from the new album. Visit their Soundcloud to hear more songs from the new album as well as old favourites.

Gudrid Hansdottir & Hi-Lo & In Between on tour

Gudrid Hansdottir is a Faroe Islands based folk singer-songwriter and she is currently touring with the great Finnish folk group Hi-Lo & In Between. Unfortunately I somehow managed to live under the impression that this tour won’t start until next week. Most likely because the Turku concert at Bar Kuka (which I’m gonna attend myself) takes place next thursday 10.05.2012. Therefore I’m a bit late with this information, because the first date(s) are already behind. Anyway, check out the rest of the dates tour, because this might end up being something pretty special. If you are still hesitating, check out these two magical videos below.

Gudrid Hansdottir & Hi-Lo & In Between on tour:

02.05. Korjaamo, Helsinki
04.05. O’Connell’s, Tampere

Piilomaa

Ville Härkönen is currently exploring the Ethiopian pop music scene, but thankfully that hasn’t stopped him from writing new music and forming new bands. Piilomaa = Ville Härkönen, Ensio Kinnunen, Heikki Marttila, Pekka Kupiainen and Petri Varis and they’ve put together a promo EP, which you can hear below. My own favourite is Vaativaa seuraa. It’s been stuck in my head since I first heard it on Ville’s solo concert sometime last year.
