Danny & The Champions Of The World, Clear

danny

A couple of new UK-faves in this post. Danny & The Champions Of The World isn’t a new favourite though, because I’ve been following Danny George Wilson since the Grand Drive days and own most of his back catalogue. Danny is under the spotlight because there’s a new album Stay True coming out on Loose Music on september 16th. It’s a mighty fine album full of great UK americana. Actually it’s one of his strongest as a whole. Soulful country music of the highest order. This is Cold Cold World from the new album Stay True.

clear

Clear is something totally new to me. I just found this Sheffield-based band a few weeks ago and instantly loved this song Sunlight. Timeless pop melodies and 70s west coast influences. Sunlight goes like this.

Video of the Day #132: Frontier Ruckus

frontier

I was just listening to the Frontier Ruckus album Eternity of Dimming the other day. Which I still do regularly, because it’s a definitely a top 5 album this year and a major contender for that album of the year award. While listening I remembered that I probably haven’t posted all of their videos yet. I think it’s about time, because these songs are worth all the hearts. So here are the music videos for the songs Dealerships and Black Holes from Eternity of Dimming. It’s a double album full of great songs and it will keep you company for a long time. It’s easy to approach, but it’s also a treasure that keeps on giving. I’ve been listening to it regularly for the past 6-7 months and I still feel like my relationship with this record is at an very early stage and I’m still learning something new with every listening session.

Gifts or Creatures, The Great Park

giftsorcreatures

Gifts or Creatures has been on the top of my playlist for the past week. Their sophomore release, Yesteryear Western Darkness, came out on last week on Earthwork Music. This husband and wife duo of Brandon and Bethany Foote have created a great americana album. I should pay even more and more attention to the folk scene in Michigan, because this is another winner and regular readers already know how much I adore bands/artists like Chris Bathgate, Frontier Ruckus, Small Houses, Strawberry Heritage, Nathan K etc. Speaking of Strawberry Heritage, the new Gifts Or Creatures music video Relicts & Ghosts was directed by Strawberry Heritage’s John Hanson. The song itself remind me a bit of Wilco´(the good kind of Wilco) and it goes like this.

The Great Park has a new EP We Love To Get Lost And We Love To Get Found out on Woodland Recordings. The man behind The Great Park is an English folk singer-songwriter Stephen Burch who currently lives in Germany. He has released a lot of good folk releases during the last 5 years or so. I picked the new EP yesterday and I’m liking it a lot. This is the opening song, Deserter.

Robbie Fulks – Gone Away Backward

robbiefulks

There was a time in my life when I listened to a lot of Robbie Fulks who is a great country/alt.country singer-songwriter from Chicago. Especially Let’s Kill Saturday Night was a big favourite back in 1998 (oh dear, 1998, where did those 15 years go, it feels like it was more like 5 years ago) and also 2005 release Georgia Hard got a lot of air time in this household. During the recent years I haven’t followed his career as closely as I probably should have. However, Bloodshot Records just released a new Robbie Fulks album Gone Away Backward and it sounds like my heart and Robbie’s music still work well together. You should definitely give this record a chance, if you are into traditional country sounds. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve heard so far and further studies will take place sometime soon. This one is When You Got To The Bottom.
