Last Leaves (3/4 of The Lucksmiths)

The Lost and Lonesome Recording Co. sent a newsletter about Last Leaves that made me really happy. The reason for my excitement is the fact that Last Leaves is a new project for several The Lucksmiths members and oh how I loved that australian indie pop band. Marty Donald, Mark Monnone and Louis Richter are all members of Last Leaves and Great Earthquake’s Noah Symons concludes the line-up. They already have some shows coming up in Australia. Unfortunately there’s no releases at this point. However, this demo of The Nights You Drove Me Home that Marty Donald made by himself already sounds pretty amazing.

Gentleman Jesse – Leaving Atlanta

Some rock action after all those beautiful folk entries. Last night I got a promo mail that made me excited. There’s a new Gentleman Jesse album coming out in march. I really love the debut. That’s a damn brilliant record. Full of 70s punky power pop and rock’n’roll. It’s a kick ass album. The follow-up Leaving Atlanta will be released by Douchemaster Records and it will hit the stores on 12th of march. Newmerica made this video for the song Rooting For the Underdog.

And of course I have to post this classic from the debut as well.

Old Hills, Young Mountain (Kickstarter campaign)

I have never written about any kickstarter project, even though I think they are a great way to fund albums. Country & folk compilation Old Hills, Young Mountain is a good reason to start writing, because I can fully support this project. The idea is to make a one of kind compilation by bringing folk musicians from all over the states to one studio in Michigan to record live to old reel to reel equipment. Artist list contain two big heroes of mine, Hezekiah Jones and Small Houses (Jeremy Quentin from Small Houses is also a producer in this project). The rest of the artists are new to me, because of my limited knowledge to folk music. However, based on that video on the Kickstarter page, I think I’m gonna check them out even before this beautiful compilation is out and available.

Check out more information about the project on the Old Hills, Young Mountain Kickstarter page.

Video of the Day #93: Frontier Ruckus

Another one for today. Frontier Ruckus also unveiled their new music video. Mona and Emmy is an outtake from their Way Upstate & the Crippled Summer, pt. 2 EP that came out last year. Me and Frontier Ruckus are still in the state of getting to know each other, but I think I already have a major crush. I can only hope the feeling is mutual. After falling for artists/bands like Chris Bathgate, Small Houses and Hezekiah Jones, dating Michigan-based folk group Frontier Ruckus felt like I logical next step and I bought the excellent Deadmalls & Nightfalls album couple weeks back and now it certainly looks like I might end up buying everything they’ve ever done during the next few weeks. This is Mona and Emmy.

And here’s a beautiful older field recording from 2008. The song is Dark Autumn Hour from the Orion Songbook.
