Robin Pahlman & Ghost Town on Tour

robinpahlmani

I usually only post tour dates, if some foreign artist that I like/love is touring in Finland. I will make an exception this time around, because Finnish indie folk singer-songwriter Robin Pahlman is currently living in Vienna, Austria and you don’t often have a chance to see him play around here (of course this is also another great chance to re-post his excellent debut single Miss Lonelyhearts that was released digitally few months ago). Next week you will have that chance to see Robin Pahlman & Ghost Town play a live concert. The tour dates are as follows:

14.8 Club Liberté, Helsinki (With Ochre Room, Marty The Random Guy)
15.8 Bar Kuka, Turku
16.8 8raita Record Store, Turku (acoustic instore gig)
17.8 West Music Fest, Pargas

And here’s that great debut single Miss Lonelyhearts.

Patrick Sweany – Close To The Floor

patricksweany

Another one that I’ve failed to mention during the busy summer months. The master of soulful blues, Patrick Sweany, released a new album Close To The Floor on 16th of July. His previous one That Old Southern Drag is still a huge favourite of mine. That’s just one amazing and consistently brilliant album. I think I’ve played most of those songs during my DJ duties at Flavour of the Month club. This new one might not quite reach that insanely high level, but it’s definitely another really strong release from Patrick Sweany. Fabulous stuff. This one below is the wonderful opener Working For You even though personal favourite song is probably Slippin’.

TIAM: Doc Feldman & the LD50, Kent Goolsby

As previously mentioned, This Is American Music is one of my favourite labels. They are releasing so much good music that it’s almost hard to keep up with all these gorgeous releases. Here are a couple of words about two of those excellent releases.

Doc Feldman & The LD50: Sundowning at the Station

Doc Feldman is a songwriter from Lexington, Kentucky and he is exploring the darker side of folk, blues and country. This might not be style-wise the closest thing to my heart, but Doc has made such a strong album together with the LD50 that all my prejudices can go down the drain. Convincing stuff. Sundowning at the Station came out on This Is American Music on july 17th. This one below is probably my favourite song from it, Cold Tile Floor.

Kent Goolsby: Trophies Of Youth

Former The Only Sons frontman Kent Goolsby released his solo debut Trophies Of Youth on 6th of august. I admit that I was never the biggest The Only Sons fan. I have the last two albums as digital download and while I like them, I was never that excited about them. Even though I only have a brief relationship with Kent’s solo debut at this point (only spinned it a couple of times at soundcloud/bandcamp), it looks like things are about to change. Either Kent has gotten better as a songwriter or I have a better taste in music than I had few years back when I listened to The Only Sons last time. Probably a bit of both. There’s a lot to love. 70s americana/country, great songwriting, captivating melodies. The name of his label pretty much says it all. This Is American music. The good kind of American music. This is the first single Natural Disaster.

Randolph’s Leap – Real Anymore

randolphs

The lovely Glasgow-based indie pop group Randolph’s Leap is going places. The Introducing Randolph’s Leap disc I bought last year had some really gorgeous tunes on it and they continue to impress with their new song Real Anymore. This is the lead single and the title track of their upcoming EP (due to be released in september) and it sounds rather marvellous to me. Very highly recommended if you are into Scottish pop music. Butcher Boy, Belle & Sebastian and that sort of things. Well basicly if you are into good music. Real Anymore is a free download on their bandcamp and it goes like this.
