Jeremy Squires – Central Nervous Station EP

jeremysquires

I’m so slow these days. I’ve been meaning to write about this stunning, beautifully haunting and melancholic EP for a long while. North Carolina singer-songwriter Jeremy Squires is extremely talented and he has created a marvellous little record Central Nervous Station. There’s something here that reminds me of Richard Buckner’s Devotion & Doubt album. Maybe this just hits that same melancholic part of my heart. You can listen to / buy the whole EP at Jeremy Squires bandcamp. This is A Warm Glow.

Bobby Emmett – Brighter Days (Mono Edition)

bobbyemmettbrighter

Learning Love by Bobby Emmett was the album of the year 2009 here at onechord.net and I still love that album. It really is my favourite power pop album of the past ten years or so and I still play a song from it almost every time I am DJ at the Flavour of the Month club. That album should be regarded as a pop classic and Bobby Emmett should be a star.

A couple of days ago I got an exciting email from Bobby. He has a new album out and available on iTunes/eMusic/Spotify and it’s called Brighter Days. Because my work days are long and hectic on thursdays and fridays, I didn’t got into this until today. But damn it’s great to hear new material from Bobby Emmett. This album is definitely another great one. Just like I expected it to be. You can listen to it on Spotify and buy it from iTunes. I think I already have a pretty good idea what will be the next album of the month. Great to have you back Bobby Emmett.

Couch By Couchwest 2013 March 10-16

couchbycouchwest

It’s again my duty to inform the Finnish folks (and international readers as well) that the coolest music festival of the year starts soon. The festival is obviously the annual online music festival Couch by Couchwest. The idea is simple. Austin is a long drive (actually a long flight from Finland) and you might have a thing called “life” getting in the way. And even if you have the money and time to show up, it can be inconvenient. Way too many people, traffic and all that nonsense. So why not instead just sit comfortably on your own couch and watch awesome music performances that artists from all over the world have recorded just for CXCW. There was at least one Finnish entry last year, because Jerry Lindqvist participated. Hopefully CXCW gets more this year. The rules are simple. Couch By Couchwest accepts all submissions from musicians as long as it is recorded for the Couch by Couchwest festival. So no promos, concert footage, old home videos. New unique videos recorded for CXCW. Couch is not a must. CXCW supports creativity. Anywhere but stage is alright. Read more information about it on the CXCW website.

I leave you with my favourite performance of last year’s CXCW festival. This is Glossary and Cheap Wooden Cross. It also features an excellent cameo performance from their cat Whiskey who rightfully won the best in show cat award. A member of the onechord.net household, our cat Luna got the honorable mention in the same category. She is already looking forward to CXCW 2013 and so am I.

23:23 – Torero

2323

Rami Vierula is a pretty active musician. Besides making beautiful dreamy pop music in Delay Trees, he also has his own lo-fi solo project 23:23 and he has already released three albums under that name. The latest album Torero was released 25th of february and you can get it from his bandcamp. I admit that at first 23:23 felt like just an ok side project to me and nothing to be that excited about. But now it looks like it was just me being an ass and an ignorant fool. The previous one The Softest Wave Etc already had some really fine moments and this new one is the best so far. There’s some really great songs and it also works well as a whole album. Well done. This the opening track Redheads.
