Miettinen – Pieni rockhistoriikki 1979-2000

Something to look forward to and the very likely winner of the box set of the year award. Miettinen – Pieni rock historiikki 1979-2000 will be released on 7th of september 2011. I love Miettinen. I’m almost like a prodigee of Miettinen. There would be no One Chord to Another without Miettinen and his radio show Räkärodeo. If there is a person that deserves a box set or three, it’s Miettinen. He had a huge influence on me and gave me my rock and guitar pop education. Nowadays there’s thousands of blogs and websites that provide more music tips my body can safely handle. I love those and spend hours of reading them every week, but even all of them combined can’t introduce me half as much great music than one beautiful radio show did every wednesday back then. I don’t understand how the younger generations can cope without Räkärodeo. Actually I don’t even understand how I can cope without Räkärodeo.

More about Miettinen and the box set after it has been released. I will buy this as soon as it becomes available. Maybe I should set a tent outside the record store right now. Oh well. I’m not really an outdoor type.

Astrid Swan – Hits (Pavement For Girls)

Soliti will release Astrid Swan’s new album Hits (Pavement For Girls) next wednesday 17th of august. Like you probably guessed, it is a Pavement cover album. Generally speaking, I don’t care much for cover albums but I do care for Astrid and I do care for Pavement. Therefore I gave the album a chance to win my heart over and I’ve been really enjoying it. These sounds have made some tough work days much more bearable. You can judge yourself by listening to Shady Lane below. If you enjoy it, work your way to by far the best finnish music website nrgm.fi. You can listen to the whole record on their website for the next week or so.

Fountains Of Wayne – Sky Full Of Holes

Fountains Of Wayne is regarded as one of the best pop bands in the world here at the onechord.net headquarters. However, I was mildly disappointed with the previous album Traffic and Weather. It was a hit and miss album. There were some absolute FOW classics like Fire In The Canyon, but also some songs I did not like at all. Therefore I had some doubts when I bought the new album last week when it was released, but oh my. There’s not a thing to worry about. Sky Full Of Holes is a really solid pop album from start to finish and Schlesinger/Collingwood have once again written a bunch of fantastic pop songs.

The Red Button – As Far As Yesterday Goes

This entry is also a reminder to myself. I need to order the new The Red Button album asap. The debut album She’s About To Cross My Mind was a slice of 60’s influenced power pop heaven and the follow-up As Far As Yesterday Goes has been out for a while now. Based on the sound samples on The Red Button website, Seth Swirsky and Mike Ruekberg have once again created a fabulous pop album.

This is the wonderful Cruel Girl from the debut album:
