A huge thank you + dj set list

A huge thank you to everyone who came to Flavour of The Month last night. I loved every moment of it and all the performers were brilliant. And The Genuine Fakes. Oh my. What a band. The best concert I’ve seen in ages even though Pikku-Torre isn’t the best possible place for such a loud power pop band. I was the DJ and because this evening was a perfect excuse to feel a little nostalgic and play all those power pop classics, that was exactly what I did. Along with some newer favourites like Bobby Emmett and Elvyn. You’ll find the play list below. I might have forgotten a few and it’s not in any order (except that Emitt Rhodes’ Lullabye was the last song).

The Genuine Fakes (SWE), The Sugarrush & The Wonderminer. 3.9.2011 at Pikku-Torre, Turku.

Some great things happening tomorrow and therefore a reminder is in order. Flavour of the Month club becomes thirteen years old. One Chord to Another celebrates 10th anniversary. And there’s three fabulous pop bands playing. Sweden’s finest power pop group The Genuine Fakes, One Chord to Another’s all-time favourite The Sugarrush and amazing The Wonderminer. I’m really looking forward to it. See you there. I’ll be one (or the only) of the guys that will be playing records in between these great bands. That’s my way of partying hard. Come and say hi, if we have never met (obviously it’s not illegal to say hi even if we have met). Here’s the info in a nutshell.

The Weather Station – All Of It Was Mine

Before getting completely lost in the world of power pop it’s good to remember that I do love other things almost as much. For example unique and magical folk music of The Weather Station sounds absolutely marvelous to me. Ok, I can’t say that I’m an expert on Toronto-based The Weather Station aka Tamara Lindeman, because I’m just listening to her new album All Of It Was Mine for the first time. However, I’m already completely captivated and ready to believe that this is a special record. The songs are intimate & amazing and and I love the bare & beautiful sound of the album. Somehow listening to this made me think of Sibylle Baier’s beautiful folk classic Colour Green and I suppose that can’t be a bad thing. The album just came out on You’ve Changed Records, label that only seems to release great records.

News: Doug Paisley at Dynamo, Turku on 10.09.2011

Oh my. This is something really wonderful. I’ve been focusing on Flavour Of The Month on 3rd of september, but it’s also about time to start promoting this upcoming concert at Dynamo, Turku that takes place a week later (I don’t have anything to do with this concert, I’m just excited about this). Doug Paisley is one amazing folk/country singer-songwriter from Canada. If you loved Damien Jurado’s Finland tour, you will love Doug as well. This guy is fantastic and will play his only show in Finland on 10th of september at Dynamo.

Paisleyn uusin albumi Constant Companion (2010) on saanut paljon huomiota jopa valtamediassa, Mojosta The New Yorkeriin, ja mm. Rolling Stone -lehti kutsui sitä yhdeksi vuoden 2010 parhaista singer-songwriter-albumeista. Levyllä Dougia avustavat mm. The Bandin kosketinsoittaja Garth Hudson ja kanadalainen indietähti Leslie Feist. Levyä seuranneen kiertueen Paisley teki Bonnie “Prince” Billyn seurassa.

Dynamossa Doug Paisley esiintyy yksin kitaransa kanssa.

“…effortless and insightful, full of songs that draw you in with their peaceful, easy surface and then dump a big load of hurt on you.” – Pitchfork, Stephen M. Deusner

“Americana album of the month” – Uncut

“Minä pidän tästä musiikista, tämä tuo minulle rauhan.” – Elmeri Lehtinen, 3v.
