Suburban Home 16th Anniversary

Congratulations to Suburban Home Records! This fabulous label is celebrating their 16th anniversary in Denver this weekend. I think I don’t need to go into specific details about the shows, because it’s pretty far away for us Finns. However, I love the label and want to post their Anniversary mix-tape, because it showcases the thing they do best. Which is to release wonderful music and there’s plenty of that coming this fall. For example new albums from Micah Schnabel and Have Gun Will Travel are out later in the year and I’m waiting them eagerly (Last year Micah Schnabel took the #2 spot and Have Gun Will Travel the #11 spot on my albums of the year list). There’s one song from their upcoming albums on the mix below. Suburban Home is also about to reissue the somewhat legendary Lenny & The Piss Poor album that has been out-of-print for several years. I so want that into my collection. I need to check out the new additions to their roster like Arliss Nancy, because I don’t know much about them yet.

And why not a list as well:

One Chord to Another’s Top 5 Suburban Home releases:

1. Micah Schnabel: When The Stage Lights Go Dim
2. Austin Lucas: Somebody Loves You
3. Two Cow Garage: Speaking In Cursive / Sweet Saint Me
4. Drag The River: Closed / Chicken Demos
5. Limbeck: S/T

Ok, I cheated a bit, because I put two albums from Two Cow Garage and Drag The River. And there’s still no room for The Takers or Chad Price. This is heartbreaking, I should have made a top 10 or 20.

Säkert! – På Engelska

I’ve had a big soft spot for Swedish Hello Saferide since the debut album (I really loved it back then, most likely still do), but I haven’t really given a chance for Annika Norlin’s another moniker Säkert! . Mostly because the lyrics are a big part of her charm and my Swedish skills are nowadays pretty non-existent. It looks like there are other similar kind of prejudiced pricks out there, because now Säkert! songs have been released with English lyrics. The album entitled På Engelska is now out and available and the new music video is called Can I.

And how could I not post Hello Saferide’s Anna video, if I write about Annika Norlin. This is so cruel and brutal. It breaks my romantic heart every time. It’s from the second Hello Saferide album that was produced by pop guru Andreas Mattsson.

Lauderdale – Moving On

Two of my favourite blogs, Norwegian No Deal Music and American Nine Bullets seem to be pretty damn excited about the new Lauderdale album Moving On. Because I know those guys have a great taste in music, I had to check out the album. Now after having a chance to listen to Moving On a couple of times, I want to join the party. It’s indeed a wonderful americana album. They come from Muscle Shoals, Alabama and are certainly leaving their own mark on the rich musical heritage of the place along with some other newer Shoals bands like the wonderful Doc Dailey & The Magnolia Devil. Stars Fell below might be my favourite song of the album. Maybe not the perfect example though, because there’s plenty of slower, but equally convincing material on the album as well.

Stream Doing Time by The Rollstons

As you may already know. The Rollstons will play their classic debut cd-r album Doing Time live at Monsters Of Pop festival (Telakka, Tampere 23.09.2011). Now you can listen to this whole album at Soundcloud. It’s a wonderful lo-fi indie album and also featured on this little 10 years & 10 reasons project I’ve been doing lately. I love the whole album, but I only added a couple of my biggest favourites below. You’ll find the rest by hitting this soundcloud link.
