OCTA Weekly Playlist – Episode #89

Another week, another weekly playlist.

This little playlist reached 300 followers last week, which was nice. No idea how many listen to this regularly, but still nice to see that number slowly rising. It makes a bit more sense to spend a large chunk of my every weekend into this, if someone other than just myself is listening to this. I’ll definitely continue at least until 100 episodes, but most likely even further than that. As long as I enjoy making this I suppose.

The huge album release this week is the long-waited new Christian Lee Hutson album. If this blog / world still exists at the end of 2020, you’ll find this one from a high spot on my albums of the year list. There’s plenty of other things to love as well. Anna Tivel released solo acoustic version of her 2019 treasure The Question and the new ones from Jaime Wyatt and Starpainter are big faves as well. Other great new albums came from Nat Vazer, Teddy Thompson, Mike and the Moonpies, Libby Rodenbough, Nicole Atkins, 2nd Grade, Dominic Angelella, Jake Blount and Sweet Whirl. Then there’s also new EPs from Molly Parden, Esther Rose, Steady Habits and Mia Rago.

The new singles from Rock Siltanen and Veli are my favorite new Finnish songs, but there’s also great single cuts from Litku Klemetti and Joensuu 1685. There’s also a song from the sweet surprise EP from Rami Vierula.

As for international singles, there’s was plenty to love and be excited about. I couldn’t even fit all interesting ones here, because this is already longer than anyone wants to listen. The new single Breath from Robert Chaney took my breath away as did the one by Dylan Rodrigue. Some other big faves were the new brilliant singles from Courtney Marie Andrews, Kathryn Legendre (there’s two so check out the other one too), Joshua Ray Walker, Tommy Alexander, Dolly Valentine (also two new singles), Trummors, Brigid Mae Power, Megan Palmer, Kyle Nix, Abby Hamilton, El Obo and so forth. There was so much quality songs that I wanted to squeeze everything at the top of the playlist, but in the end I had to just throw them in there rather randomly. So there’s definitely plenty of treasures at the end of this too.

That’s it for the release round up of the week. I hope you are all safe and sound. Love from a distance.

OCTA Weekly Playlist – Episode #88

Another week, another weekly playlist.

Here we are again with the weekly round up of new releases. Maybe slightly slow release week on the album front, but still plenty to love and cherish. I quite rarely put reissues on the playlist, but I’ll make an exception for Julie Arsenault. I love her music and hopefully more people will find her songs thanks to this extended edition of The Creature that I Call Myself that was released by Son Canciones.

As for completely new albums, the big ones for me are the new ones from Woods and A.O.Gerber. The week also gave us new albums from Rod Smoth, Steve Earle, Jarrod Dickenson, Audrey and Hugh, Darren Hayman, RG Lowe, Katie Von Schleicher, Jordan Klassen, Tessy Lou Williams and Fretland. The album by Thomas Hine is some weeks old, but it’s on this playlist for the first time.

The lone Finnish album here is the new LOVE SPORT album. As an addition to that there’s awesome new singles from Lone Deer Laredo, Sam Shingler, Rohkeat Kuvat, Jukka Ruottinen, White Jackets and Jere Ijäs ja Monacon työväen palloilijat.

And finally the international singles. There was a couple of big announcements. There’s a new posthumous album coming from Jason Molina. One of the all-time greats in my books. The other big deal is that Kathleen Edwards returned with a new single. Some other single favorites came from Jenny O, Phoebe Bridgers and Kyle Nix, but as usual everything is a worthy of a mention.

That’s it for this week. As you may have noticed, I’ve been doing those round up posts to catch up with the stuff that I failed to post during my eight week long illness. Outside the playlist I mean, but I think it’s worthy because not every follows the playlist and I don’t want this to become just a playlist. All the best to everyone. Love from a distance.

OCTA Weekly Playlist – Episode #87

Another week, another weekly playlist.

The huge one for this week was the new Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit album, but don’t let that beauty overshadow all the other wonderful releases. That MAITA album is magnificent and Gretchen Peters made captivating versions of Mickey Newbury songs. There’s also great new albums from Mark Fredson, Rose City Band, Jess Williamson, Natalie Jane Hill, Ben de la Cour, Zach Aaron, Pharis & Jason Romero, Glenn Thomas, Caitlin Cannon, The Sweet Water Warblers and Secret Emchy Society. That Jeff Pianki album I managed to miss a while ago, but it’s here now.

The Finnish section revisits the albums from Hermaja, Pöllöt and Guggenheim-projektz and features the new PÄÄ KII single. I’m sure there was more, so sorry if I missed something important.

The single of the week for me is the new J.E.Sunde song that finally got a Euro release this week. One of my favorite songwriters in the world. I also really loved the new Michelle Billingsley song, Jacob Miller has a couple of great new ones and there’s a new one from long time fave Steven Adams. OCTA Weekly Playlist – Episode #86

Another week, another weekly playlist.

Thank you for the ones who keep on following the playlist during these times and thank you music for keeping me relatively sane.

The big album releases for me were the new ones from Sylvia Rose Novak and Adeline Hotel. Sylvia Rose Novak did appear on this playlist in 2018, but sadly I still didn’t pay enough attention to the full album at the time. All the advance singles of this new record have been on this playlist and I’ve loved them all. This time I won’t let the album pass me by. Adeline Hotel is a long time favourite and they continue to create charming albums. Other great album releases of the week came from Andrew Hibbard, Brian Wright & The Sneakups, Aquakultre, Evan Myall and Modern Studies. Lawrence County and Karl Harvey albums came earlier in the spring, but they are on this playlist for the first time. There’s a few mighty good EPs too from Will Stewart and Monteagle.

The Finnish section is strong this time around. Viljami Kukkonen is a huge favorite of mine, so his new single was the brightest star for me. However, there’s also gorgeous album releases from Hermaja, Pöllöt and Guggenheim-projektz. Plus singles from Bizzarro & Jukka Nissinen, Matti Jasu and Love Sport.

As for singles, there’s plenty to love. The best music news of the week was that Secretly Canadian signed Le Ren and their beautiful journey together started with a rerelease of the single Love Can’t Be the Only Reason to Stay. One of the songs I loved the most during 2019. Leah Senior’s new single might be slightly different than her earlier work, but equally wonderful. If not even more so, but I’m not sure is that even possible, because I love her older albums. Anna Ash made a really beautiful cover of Keep Me From Blowing Away and then there’s strong new cuts from Jenny O, Julie Arsenault, Joshua Ray Walker, Christian Lee Hutson, Becca Mancari, Dan Reeder and Tommy Alexander albums. Oh and a new song from Jason Sinkhorn, debut single from Kyle Nix and what about that sweet return of Snowgoose. Also the first single from the new solo acoustic version of Anna Tivel’s 2019 treasure The Question. And lots more.

That’s it for this week. All the best to everyone who reads this. I hope you are safe and sound. Love from a distance.
