OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #334

I was away from home last weekend and also this weekend. But here’s a late Sunday night edition of the new music weekly that somewhat desperately tries to cover the past two weeks of new music. I know there’s a ton missing. I didn’t have the time to go through any submissions and I probably simply forgot a lot. Anyway, here’s something.

Ryan Davis & The Roadhouse Band can be the album of the week(s). There’s also new albums from Jack Symes, Fortunato Durutti Marinetti, Yoshika Colwell, Galore, Pacing, Night Moves, Julian Cubillos, Constellation Myths, Cory Hanson, Tyler Childers, Sean Pratt, Ben Nichols, Amy Lashley, Mose Wilson, Laura Jane Grace, Red Sleeping Beauty, Luke Saxton, Ranch Hands and Grayson Jenkins.

A short Finnish section. I’m sure there had to be more. But there’s an album from Kelja and singles from Vehje, Kadotettu Nuoruus and Junttu.

New Anna Tivel can be the international single of the week. Other big early faves came from John Calvin Abney, Cooper Kenward, Julianna Riolino, Jessica Risker, Kitba, Kashena Sampson, Jesse Lovelock, Sierra Ferrell & Nikki Lane…. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Hopefully less rushed edition next weekend. There’s a couple of festival in the city though, so who knows. I might skip Turku Sea Jazz, because I’ve spent so much money lately and that’s fairly expensive. However, Punx for Seitan is next weekend too. I’m not really a punk and don’t know any of the bands, but it’s a lovely event and Kirjakahvila is a special place. So maybe I’ll go there, but I’m gonna do this one as well. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #333

Another quick summer edition of the new music weekly.

Coltt Winter Lepley made my album of the week. Well I guess it’s an EP actually. Anyway, there’s a whole lot of great songwriting in there and it’s a wonderful release. A name to keep an eye on. Could be huge one day. Other album gems this week came from Graves, Tami Neilson, Bonnie Dobson & The Hanging Stars, Sister., Allo Darlin’, Alfie Firmin, Girlatones / Forever Son (split), The Wind-Ups, The Innocence Mission (EP), Mal Blum, Martha (rarities comp), Murry Hammond, Van Darien, Bob Lefevre & The Already Gone, Mike Polizze, Gary Hector (this is from June, but I missed it at the time), Tanner Usrey, Andy Boay and Leroi Conroy.

Finnish part is a bit shorter this time around, but the quality is high. There’s a new album from Ptak and singles from Spotless Souls, Echo Tapes, Figaro and Eero Savela.

International song of the week is the new single from Alice George Perez. That’s a week old, but I found it after last week’s episode. Instantly loved it and have been listening to it all week long. Extremely highly recommended. Some other early faves came from The Fishermen Three, Katie Spencer, Abe Partridge, Dylan Earl, T. Hardy Morris, Hello Emerson, Pete Posie, Otis Gibbs, MJ Lenderman (Jason Molina cover), Michael Hurley… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. Next weekend is the Odysseus Festival at Korjaamo, Helsinki and long time OCTA favorite Michael James Tapscott will be playing there. I will be there at least on Friday, so I’ll see you there if you are coming. At the moment I only have a ticket for Friday, but it’s possible that I grab a hotel and stick around for Saturday too. I haven’t really decided yet. In that case I might not have the time or energy to do this next weekend. So I might skip next weekend. If so, I’ll again cover two weeks with the next episode. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #332

I did skip a week like you may have noticed. I was on full vacation mode. Sorry if someone was waiting for this, but I needed the break. This might not seem like much, but it’s still a grind to compile it every weekend. I will definitely skip one more week in late August and perhaps one before that as well. We’ll see where live music take me during the summer weekends. And well it’s getting again harder and harder to justify making a Spotify playlist, but at least there’s the Tidal option too. But yeah, enough of this. Here’s the new music of the past two weeks. There’s definitely stuff missing, because there were some vacation days when I didn’t listen to new music at all.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #331

A quick midsummer vacation edition of the new music weekly, because there was so much good new music that I didn’t have the heart to skip this one. Maybe I skip the next one. Most likely not, because most likely lovely people are again releasing a lot of lovely new music. We sure need it during these dark times.

Album of the week is the new S.G.Goodman. Alex Amen’s EP might still be my favorite release of the week. But I love both of them and it doesn’t end there. A lot of strong albums this week. There’s new ones from Little Mazarn, James McMurtry, Kelsey Waldon, Presley Haile (EP), Eric Long, The Bones of J.R.
