OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #289

I was going to skip this weekend, but got sudden burst of inspiration and made this late on Sunday night. So here’s a very quick new music weekly.

There’s new albums from American Aquarium, Charley Crockett, Jack M. Senff, Roger Bryan and the Orphans (EP), Sinai Vessel, Little Mystery, Nick Delffs, MAITA, Trevor Beld Jimenez, Ted Barber, Holly Arrowsmith, Lasers Lasers Birmingham, Hubbell Benson (EP), Alex Izenberg, Ben Seretan, Marley Hale (EP), The Red Clay Strays, Casey Neill, Nightshift.

Finnish part has a new EP from Jenna-Marie Laine plus singles from Station Approach and Miika Leivo. And I featured a couple of 2023 releases too, because they are new to me. These are Itcevät EP and Oujee single. I saw them live last night (well not Oujee actually, that was solo performance from Albert Koski) and really liked both of them (Tender Lakes too, but I’ve had them here several times). I listened the recorded output today and liked that a lot too, so I included them here this week even though they might not fully fit under the new music category. But yeah obviously music is relevant whenever it hits your heart and not just around the release date.

There’s also a whole lot of international singles. Some early faves came from Erisy Watt, Icarus Phoenix, Bob Sumner, Benjamin Tod, Caleb Caudle, Jack Barksdale, Casual Technicians.. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I hope I didn’t forget too much, because I made this very quickly. Back next week with hopefully a bit more thorough look at the new music. Love love love.

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to other platforms. This means a few tracks might be missing from the from the other platforms, if they are not available there. Oh and there’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #288

A very quick new music weekly after a two day music festival. Most likely missed a lot of good stuff.

New Melissa Carper is the album of the week. I’m a long time fan and this again such a great album. New Beachwood Sparks album is also a very big deal. Other big album releases came from Kiely Connell, Goodnight, Texas, David Quinn, Caleb Stine, Elijah Ocean, Carson McHone (cover EP), Eric McEntee (EP), Lance Howell, Blaine Todd, Wila Frank (EP) and Once Great Estate (this last one is a month old).

Quiet on the Finnish side of things. There’s a great new Ocelot single though. And I also included earlier 2024 single from Pelkkä Poutanen. A new one for me, but loved the concert yesterday at Ilmiö Festival and therefore included it now.

New Gillian Welch & David Rawlings song is the international single of the week. Other early faves came from Flora Hibberd, Max Bien Kahn, Rachel Brooke, India Ramey, Holy Matter, Hannah Juanita, Teenage Tom Petties, Andrew Combs and Lea Thomas. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next weekend there probably won’t be a new music weekly. My vacation plans are still up in the air, but I probably won’t have enough time to do this. If that’s the case, I’ll again try to cover two weeks with the next one. Love love love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #287

Summer vacation. Thankfully so, because both mind and the body need the rest. But hobbies continue, so here’s the new music weekly. A lot of country and especially country Bens this week.

The new one from Johnny Blue Skies (aka Sturgill) is the album of the week even though I usually go with a less household name for that. I haven’t made a deep dive yet, but liked it a lot on quick listen. We also have new albums from Maya De Vitry, Rainy Eyes, Chris Emmert & Austin Stambaugh, West of Roan, Ben Arsenault, Ben Vallee (this is about a month old, but I missed it back then), Ben Jarrell, Jake Xerxes Fussell, Cassandra Lewis, Bright Arcana, Cassandra Jenkins, Color Green, Deer Tick, Smug Brothers (EP), Chris Cohen and LadyCouch.

Again only a a few Finnish cuts, but I love them all. These are singles from Hattara, Jani Matti Juhani and Emilia Sisco and Cold Diamond & Mink. I’m very eager to hear that Hattara album, because so far I’ve only heard good/great song from them. I’ve been even thinking of going to the album release concert in Helsinki, but that might get a little too tricky due to work-related reasons.

A lot of international singles gold too. The song of the week is the new one from Christo Graham. Other big early faves came from Richard Laviolette, Christian Lee Hutson, The Softies, Quivers, The Secret Beach, Bobby Emmett, Jack M. Senff and Bella White. Again just to name few. Something that I didn’t namedrop here might end up being the one I love the most.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next weekend I will be at Ilmiö Festival for two days. The plan is still to make the new music weekly, but it’s probably late Sunday. Maybe even Monday, if I’m too tired on Sunday. The weekend after that I will maybe skip altogether, because vacation things might come in the way. We’ll see. Love.
