OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #256

A quick fever-ish covid edition of the new music weekly. My head hurts and I’m sure I forgot some stuff. Probably even things I promised to include. My apologies. I also couldn’t listen a lot due to the headache either, so I just quickly picked something I liked from each record. Still wanted to do it, because it was a great release week and many of these will end up on my aoty lists in a month or so.

The album of the week is the new Jeffrey Martin album. A lot of great songwriting there. Kelly Sloan, Andrew Bryant and Julie Arsenault are always big faves too. Then there’s also great new ones from Bry Webb, Skyway Man, Bonnie Montgomery, Jaime Wyatt, Fever Feel, Matthew McNeal (EP), Fortunato Durutti Marinetti, Geordie Gordon, Luxury Skin, David Ritschard, Christian Kjellvander, Laura Veirs, Teenage Tom Petties, Summer Set, memorytown, Gabriel Birnbaum, Thorsten Nesch (EP), Hannah White and The Smashing Times.

A really big release week in Finland too. A new awesome double-LP from Salaliitto, great debut full-lenghts from Krypta and Tender Lakes, new english-language album from Joose Keskitalo plus singles from Tams, Kiss Disease, Iisa, Lovers Left Alive, HXA, Janeveera, Lau Nau, Colorblue and Markus Asunta. Oh and one few months old single from a band called Toinen Maisema. I missed it back then, but thankfully finally got the memo because I love this song.

Some great international singles too from Joe Pug, Leslie Stevens, Junior Scaife, Frog, Vincent Neil Emerson, Antonia Estelle, Matthew Doc Dunn and the likes.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Back next week with another episode of this silly little playlist. Mostly likely on Sunday, because I have a workday on Saturday (as long as I’ve shaken off this covid thing before that). Love from a distance.

A few Bandcamp cuts for the lovely non-streamers:

Oh and do buy the vinyl/cd/download. Spotify and other streaming services are perfect for these introductory purposes, but try to buy at least the music that matter the most to you

I’ll make the playlist on Spotify and then transfer it to Tidal. This means a few tracks might be missing from the Tidal version, if they are not available on that platform. Usually it’s 1-3 tracks that are not on Tidal. There’s a bunch of older episodes on my Spotify profile, if you miss an episode or want to revisit.

If you are looking this after a week has gone, the embedded Spotify will show the latest playlist. I’ll just update the same playlist because if someone wants to follow it, they can just follow that one list and will get a new set of songs each weekend.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #255

Busy weekend, but here’s a quick new music weekly before Sunday’s Helsinki visit to see Dylan LeBlanc. This was actually a pretty damn good release week.

Not a whole lot of listening yet, but let’s give the album of the week to the new Willy Tea Taylor & The Fellership record. Loved that on first listen. There’s quite a lot of diffent kind of things I love this week. Sean Burns has a great classic country record while Thomas Walsh has an awesome pop album. The American Analog Set returned and Steven van Betten’s album is just super sweet (although the song I have on the playlist hits really hard. My apologies for that). Maybel, Carla Geneve and Jerry Leger always big faves too and the list goes on an on. We also have new albums from Duff Thompson, Tommy and the Ohs, Desolation Horse, Golden Apples, The Mountain Goats, Monster Furniture, Jon Danforth, Jessi Colter, Nora Jane Struthers, Caitlin Kraus, Norma MacDonald, Flatland Cavalry, Black Pumas, The Gaslight Anthem and Micah Thunder.

A lot of good Finnish stuff. I think my early faves here are the double singles from Kielo Kärkkäinen and new band called Leipä (some usual suspects in the line-up though). Other finnish treasures are albums from Suudelmat, Favourite Colours and Tuomari Nurmio & FOLX, EP from Kaikki turhat haaveet and singles from Nuoruus, Säteri Super and Pekka Nisu. Oh and included A.Takalo’s couple of weeks old album, because I missed it at the time. Sounded real good on quick listen, so I will put that on rotation during the coming week.

The international song of the week is the new one from long time favorite Adam Remnant. Other early faves came from Adeem the Artist, John Craigie, Advance Base, BenBen, Bory, The Reds, Pinks and Purples, Liquid Mike and Frog. Again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. See you tomorrow in Helsinki and here again next weekend. One of the best albums I’ve heard this year comes out then. That’s Jeffrey Martin. Until then. Love and empathy.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #254

The album of the week is the new Dylan LeBlanc album for two great reasons. First and foremost, it’s a damn good album. Secondly, he will actually starts his European tour here in Finland next week. He will play in Tampere, Telakka on the 28th and in Helsinki, On the Rocks on the 29th. Extremely highly recommended. Both the record and the upcoming concerts.

There’s plenty of other great releases too. Maybe Sun June and Stanley Brinks are at the top of my list, but we also great new ones from Matt Moran (EP), Dusk, Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Tedo Stone, Cactus Lee, Ha Ha Tonka, Steph Green, Dylan Rodrigue, Katie Von Schleicher, Maya De Vitry (EP), Israel Nash, Malena Cadiz, Gracie Lane, Dylan Lancaster and Malin Pettersen.

Awesome Finnish release week as well led by the new Sepänkadun Köyhät ja Nöyryytetyt album. We also got excellent albums from Pambikallio and Jarkko Martikainen plus an EP from Suonio & Taskinen. A few gorgeous singles from Aavikko feat Nicole Willis and Karlo Haapiainen & Varaslähtö. Oh and I missed a couple of things last week. These are album from Vimma and single from Tyynyt. That Tyynyt single was a really bad miss, because it’s such a wonderful song.

The international single of the week is obviously the first single from the next Willi Carlisle album. Love that guy. Other early faves came from Zach Russell, Andrew Bryant, Vincent Neil Emerson, Charley Crockett, Evan Cheadle, Thomas Walsh, Michael Nau and Bastards of Soul. Again just to name a few.
