OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #338

This is a surprise new music weekly. Even for myself. The plan was to cover two weeks with the next one instead of making this on Tuesday. But I got back home from the Stockholm Roots Festival early in the morning, started listening to new music and there was so much good stuff that it inspired me to do this now. I also know that I will be quite busy during next weekend and grinding out a two week playlist late on a Sunday night felt a bit too much. By doing this now, it also gives me the option to make the next on Monday. Anyway, here it goes. Might be some stuff missing, because this was quickly done. I fill the possible holes on the next one.

New Dean Johnson is the album of the week (and one of my favorites of the whole year too). Other great album releases came from Greg Freeman, Kathleen Edwards, Dillon Warnek, Leslie Graves & Toby Goodshank, Sam and Louise Sullivan, SunYears, Way Dynamic, Tullycraft, Scree, Darren Hayman, Case Oats, Superchunk, Hand Habits, Jake Chisenhall (EP), Hello Emerson (EP), Misty Harlowe (EP), Tommy Prine (EP), Will Hoge, The Numbers (this is from July) and Judy Blank.

Finnish part has the awesome new Eero Savela album along with singles from Longing Louisa, Metsäheikki, Arppa, Pekko Käppi & K:H:H:L, Morimus and Matti Sakari.

International single of the week is the new single from Mia Wilson. Loving it so much and I’m eager to hear her debut album that is coming out on Royal Oakie in November. Other early faves came from John Calvin Abney, Westmoreland, Ken Pomeroy, Cut Worms, Fittonia, Jerry Leger, Joshua Ray Walker, Fittonia… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next one is most likely very late on Sunday or even very late on Monday. Oh and I didn’t include the new singles of this week on this one. I did this on Tuesday, so there’s plenty already out like Sabine McCalla and Thomas Dollbaum.. But those gems will go to the next one. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #336

Another fairly quickly compiled summer edition of the new music weekly.

So far I’ve spent most time with the beautiful new one from Blair Borax, so that’s the album of the week. Other one on heavy rotation has been the new Joe Wunderle. A great record there as well. Others I haven’t even listened in full yet, but I’m sure I’m going to love several when I have the time to dig in. There are new albums from Chris Staples, T. Hardy Morris, Austin Stambaugh, Charley Crockett, Matthew Payne (a month old EP), Hayes Carll, BettySoo (a few weeks old album that I also missed at the time), Jake Winstrom, Ada Lea, Star Moles, Kissing Other ppl, Rebecca Porter and Field Medic.

The Finnish part is my favorite thing this week, because there’s a new Kristiina song in this messed up world. Wonderful as usual. Love that band so much and I can’t wait to hear the new album sometime in September when it comes out. I’m also very fond of the debut single from Takay-Sin. My listening count is already in double digits. Other Finnish cuts are great new singles from Rebekka Holi, Amuri and Metsäheikki. A short Finnish section, but pure gold all around.

New Joan Shelley is the international single this week, but there’s a lot of gems. Some other big faves came from Mariel Buckley, Dana Sipos, Lucy Dacus, Katie Spencer, Nicholas Jamerson.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next week it’s business.. well hobby as usual and there will be a new music weekly. The week after that won’t happen, because I will be watching Lou Hazel, Melissa Carper, Adeem the Artist, S.G. Goodman, Ian Noe, Daniel Romano and many others play live and definitely won’t have the time for this. But one more before the break. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #335

Another quick Sunday edition of the new music weekly. I haven’t really done a good job with this during the summer, but here’s a some kind of round-up of the new music of the week.

Jessica Risker’s new one can be the album of the week. Listened to that beauty of a record a lot yesterday while walking around the city. Other album gems this week came from Beauty (thanks to Rosy Overdrive for this one), Jake Nicoll, Emily Hines, Josh Halper, Bad Posture Club (this one is a month old, but I just found out today and loved it on first listen), Toby Goodshank, Travis Roberts, Sunny Sweeney, Luke Pelletier, Jake Dwyer Band and Patrick Sweany.

On the Finnish side of things, we have a moving Valmistaudu rauhaan album from Monna Kamu, Minja Koski, Kielo Kärkkäinen, Eero Ojanen, Arto Piispanen and Ville Rauhala. Other gems are an EP from Kelluvat ikkunat and singles from Arppa, Väisänen, Surupuseroiset, Juppe and Star Marcs.

Some early favorites on the international singles part are from Nathan Jacques, Joe Wunderle, Ron Sexsmith, Angela Autumn, The Pink Stones.. again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Most likely back next week with another of these. I will miss at least one more week in August, but that’s a bit later. I’ve been also thinking about wrapping up the whole weekly thing. Maybe 350 would be a good round number. Justifying spending five or so hours every weekend on a mostly Spotify playlist gets trickier on multitudes of levels. But of course onechordnet carries on in some shape or form even if there are changes. Also it’s highly possible that it’s easier for me to see the value in keeping on compiling this when the days get darker and shorter. Love and everything.

1. Beauty – Acid Baby Girl (I’d Do Almost Anything For You, Strange View Records)
2. Fortitude Valley – Totally (Part of the Problem, Baby, Specialist Subject)
