Video of the Day #65: Marmalakes + Chase Weinacht

Last night I was reading one of my favourite blogs songs:illinois and stumbled upon the name Chase Weinacht. I had never heard of him before, but I liked him about 23 seconds after I started to listen to the song (A Scene Through) Cellophane.

Chase is a folk-pop singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas and he released his first two solo albums in april. These beauties entitled Here Cinema and Moon Country are available on his bandcamp (and for free, at least when I’m writing this). I downloaded both of these recods last night and I really like them. This guy is very talented and able to create wonderful lo-fi folk songs. Something like the early work of australian pop guru Darren Hanlon at times.

Chase also plays in a band called Marmalakes. The video of the day is this great live version of a song Turquoise Balloons that you can also find from Chase’s solo album Moon Country.

Video of the Day #64: David Myhr

Swedish David Myhr from The Merrymakers is going solo. That sounds pretty exciting to me, because both The Merrymakers albums are heralded as power pop classics in this household (and probably in almost every household where 90’s power/guitar pop is a big deal). I’m still a little ashamed that I failed to post David’s debut single Got You Where He Wanted that came out in march, but let’s make amends by posting this second single Looking For A Life that came out about a week ago. Such a marvelous pop song. The lyrics to this beauty were written by the Swedish pop guru Andreas Mattsson (ex-Popsicle who released a great solo album earlier in 2011). Check out the song below. You can download it for free, if you become his fan at Facebook. The solo album should be out sometime in the fall.

Video of the Day #63: The Avett Brothers

Crackerfarm posted this wonderful video a couple of days ago and I’ve watched it at least ten times. I’m a huge The Avett Brothers fan and I’m still a little upset that they cancelled their concert in Stockholm, Sweden a year ago, because we had tickets and we were raring to go. But it’s rather impossible to stay angry when they always deliver such great performances as this one below. The song is Prettiest Thing by David Childers. I need to check out this Mr David Childers, because this song is magnificent. One of his albums is on Spotify, so I’ll start from there tomorrow.

Video of the Day #62: Carol Anne McGowan

I found irish folk singer-songwriter Carol Anne McGowan and this video a month or two ago and I keep on coming back to this. Therefore it’s about time to share this beautiful song. Songs From The Cellar is her debut release and it was recorded in a 500 year old wine cellar in the small German town of Oestrich – Winkel, on the Rhine. This beautiful, fragile and intimate folk song is called Carrigeen. The physical copies of the record seem to be sold out, but digital download is available from her bandcamp page (where you can also stream the whole album).
