OCTA 18th Anniversary – Matti Jasu

Back to the Finnish shores and more precisely Turku. Songwriter Matti Jasu is a long time favourite and his great songs have been a part of this blog for almost 15 years. First he was here with Goodnight Monsters and later on with the various incarnations of the Matti Jasu bands. He has been working a new full-length, but before that arrives he jumps on the festival stage to deliver a gorgeous live in his workroom version of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The original can be found from the 2012 album Samurai vs Computer by Matti Jasu & The Loose Train.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Clara Baker

Portland gave such a warm welcome to our online birthday party that we’ll stay here for a little while. Singer-songwriter Clara Baker is a new find for me and I didn’t know her music before the release of her fabulous 2019 Shane Leonard-produced album Things to Burn. Or well the advance singles, because just hearing Doubt and Things to Burn was more than enough to tell me that I’ve found someone new to love. I fully recommend giving that beauty of an album a spin after her appearance on our festival. Here’s Clara Baker with a great version of album cut More Than Enough.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Jeffrey Martin

We are moving on to Portland, Oregon to meet up with singer-songwriter Jeffrey Martin. His two albums on Fluff & Gravy Records, Dogs in the Daylight (2014) and One Go Around (2017) are full of marvellous songs and captivating storytelling. I highly recommend giving those a listen after his festival performance. This is a really special one too, so sorry for holding onto this treasure for so long. Here’s Jeffrey Martin singing a wonderful new song that doesn’t have a name yet.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Antero Kaksikäsi

We are heading into the weekend and start the last three days of the festival. On Day 6, we build the first festival stage in Helsinki, Finland and give you some Finnish country music. Songwriter Antero Kaksikäsi released his debut album Suomenkielistä kantrimusiikkia a little less than year ago. He joins our birthday party together with his collaborator Jussi Suonikko to give some solid life advice and perform a live version of album cut Taidan pysyy tässä.
