OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #324

A big release week. So much to love.

Kassi Valazza and Esther Rose can share the album of the week honors. I’m a long time fan and listener of both and these new albums are again wonderful. Pearl Charles album is a special one too. I missed it last week, because so far the full album seem to be only available on Bandcamp and vinyl, but I put one of the advance singles here for playlist purposes. Other great album releases came from M Ross Perkins, Eli Winter, Monnone Alone, Samatha Crain, Sterling Drake, Real Estate (rarities comp), Angela Autumn (EP), Pete Mancini (this came out on Bandcamp a month or two ago, but seems to be streaming now too), Neil Brogan, Red Birds (from last week), Christopher Seymore, Walker Rider, Jacquelyn Roy, Alli Blois and the Orange County Shred Center, Abigail Lapell (Anniversary extended), Thanya Iyer, The Real Tuesday Weld (first time streaming), Moon Mullins, Carriers and Young Gun Silver Fox.

The highlight of the Finnish part of is a new Hattara single. One of my favorite bands these days. Other local gems are albums from Midnight Commando and Joni Ekman & Koira plus singles from Tams, Rebekka Holi, (proto)Torvinen, Jere Ijäs ja Monacon työväen palloilijat and Drug Dog. The Finnish section ends with Finnish-Danish duo CERULEAN SAPPHIRE.

The international singles are pure gold this week. I think I shed a tear or two when I started adding them. So many beautiful ones. Some early faves came from Alex Amen (Oh my, love this with all my heart), Charlie Whitten, Attention Bird Utopia, Sam Blasucci, Geckos, Emily Hines, Erin Durant, Jessica Risker, Murry Hammond, Patton Magee, King Husky, Mac Cornish, Taylor Williams.. again just to name a few. I feel like I should name all of them. What a strong week.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I hope I didn’t forget too much, because this was a big one. Back next week. Love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #323

Back again. I did skip the Easter weekend and therefore this one tries to cover the past two weeks. I’m sure there’s stuff missing, because it’s difficult to handle so much new music at one go. Plus I did just leave some out, because this is already far longer than anyone will listen. Biggest draft had over 120 songs, but I cut it down to an even hundred. Monk would be proud of me.

Slow Motion Cowboys album is the one I’ve listened the most so far, so that can be the album of the week(s) on this patch. That Colin Miller album also hits really hard and that Bells Larsen album is so beautiful (I didn’t put the cover of that album to the collage, because Meta often seem to auto-block photos with nudity). And the list goes on and on. We have great albums from Jerry David DeCicca, Mike Frazier, Julie Arsenault & Aaron Comeau, Michael Cloud Duguay, Jo Schornikow, Satomimagae, Avery Friedman, Trevor Beld Jimenez, Olive Klug, Leslie Jordan, Blue Cactus, Leon Majcen, Mason Via, Uwade, Pitney Meyer, Mark Fredson, Rubber Band Gun, Jason Dea West, JPW & Dad Weed, Mythical Motors, Festiva, Ryan Allen and His Extra Men, Jessica Lea Mayfield (EP), Run Coyote (EP), Rodeo Boys, Marlene Oak (EP), William Tyler, Firestations, Ally Kerr and Flying Mojito Bros.

The Finnish part of is led by a new Kristiina single and it’s again marvellous. It kinda felt like a betrayal to skip the new music weekly on a week that Kristiina released new music, but at least it’s here now. Another highlight is the debut single from Janne Laurila Double Denim. Other Finnish gems of the past two weeks are albums from Räjäyttäjät, Thelma’s Dream, The Bablers, Lauri Kallio and Tove Johnson (EP) plus singles from Jukka Nousiainen Trio, Juovat, Krypta, Petra Poutanen, Kirsikkapuu, Itcevät, Neiti Olga, Ilja Karsikas feat Janne Tapion Sisäinen Avaruus and AK-77. Outside of the evil streaming services we have a gorgeous new album from Jean Ramsay. You can get if from Bandcamp for example. I’ll return to that album on a later date.

The international singles are a bit buried on the second half of this monster playlist, but there’s plenty of great ones. Some early faves there came from Philippe Bronchtein, Bryse Taylor, Jobi Riccio, Pearl Charles, S.G. Goodman, Brennan Edwards, Vandoliers, Kristina Murray, Nicholas Jamerson, Kyle Cox, Friendship, Zach Thompson… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. I hope I didn’t forget too much. I try to fill the holes during coming weeks, if I did. Good luck to everyone who tries to listen all of this or even half of this. A bit shorter one next week with the usual one week edition. Love love.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #322

Again two days of live music and therefore a late edition of the new music weekly. Something is most definitely missing.

Jimmie Kilpatrick made the album of the week. If that doesn’t ring a bell, you might know him as Shotgun Jimmie. But it’s still Jimmie and it’s still wonderful. We also have new albums from Gum Parker, Joni, Valerie June, Nell Smith, Cassidy Waring, fantasy of a broken heart (EP), Jay Gonzalez vs Sloan Brothers (split EP), The Bedbugs (EP), Sunny Intervals, Finnish Postcard, Turnpike Troubadours, Mojohand, H. Self, Daughter of Swords. Oh and there’s the Bon Iver too, but I haven’t gotten around to that yet. And it’s not like you need this blog to find that one. But people do say it’s great, so I’ll check it out when I have the time.

From the Finnish side of things we have albums from Klara LaFleur, Tanssiva Karhu (rarities etc), Sina Viola (EP). Also singles from Emmy June, Salla Karonen, Kärmes, Joni Ekman & Koira, Litku Klemetti, Thelma’s Dream and KIUSA.

On the international singles category we have the first outtake from the next Willi Carlisle album. So that has to be the song of the week. There’s also great new ones from Kassi Valazza, Bells Larsen, Esther Rose, Dean Johnson (Lucinda cover), Slippers, Alien Boy… again just to name a few.

That’s all for now. Like, share, follow and all the usual promotional nonsense. It all matters. Next week is the Easter, so I don’t know about the timeframe for this. Dean Johnson will be touring in Finland around Easter, so that’s the most important thing. Tampere on Sunday and Helsinki on Monday. I try to make this too at some point, because there’s important things like a new Kristiina single. But no promises. Not sure if I manage. We’ll see. But yeah, if I miss a week. I’ll cover two with the next one. Love and all that. See you at the Dean Johnson show.

OCTA New Music Weekly – Episode #321

Weekends remain busy so here’s another late Sunday evening edition of the new music weekly. Inbox still a chaos. Probably should just remove the submission info temporarily. Sorry for being so hard to reach.

Will Johnson and Craig Finn can share the album of the week honors. Long time fan of both and the new records seem fabulous on quick listen.
