OCTA 18th Anniversary – Drew Beskin

Next we travel to Athens, GA to hear a great performance from Drew Beskin and Henry Beskin (I hope I catched Henry’s name correctly). This is Henry’s first appearance on this blog, but Drew Beskin is a long time favourite and has been here several times both solo and with his wonderful bands The District Attorneys, PURSES and Party Dolls. Drew’s festival song Suspicion from the Start is the single from his 2018 solo album Nostalgia Porn. The studio version of this song and the whole gorgeous album can be found from his Bandcamp. There’s also a music video for the song. Take it away Drew and Henry.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – John Calvin Abney

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Calvin Abney from Tulsa, Oklahoma will release his new album Safe Passage on the 27th of September. Keep an eye on that on his website / social media pages and/or follow this little music blog, because this beauty of a record will be heavily featured here. Before these new sounds, John took the time to jump on this festival stage with a really beautiful solo piano version of the opening track Always Enough of his 2018 album Coyote. You can hear/buy the studio version of this song and all recorded output by visiting his bandcamp or Black Mesa Records website.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Mitä helvettiä nyt taas

Not so surprisingly, the Finnish leg of our festivities starts from Vaasa. If you’ve enjoyed this music blog over these years, give a hug to these lovely people. Their other band The Sugarrush is my all-time favorite and a major reason why I ever started making One Chord to Another. We will get to them on the actual birthday on the 17th and start this Vaasa salute with a song from their equally wonderful new band Mitä helvettiä nyt taas (MHNT). Here’s a gorgeous acoustic live version of their debut single Tässä kylmässä kaupungissa that originally came out in 2016. Be on the lookout for an encore later during the anniversary week.

OCTA 18th Anniversary – Anna Tivel

Welcome to the 18th Anniversary Festival of One Chord to Another. Our birthday party starts in Portland, Oregon and I’m deeply honored to share this new song from one of my absolute favorite songwriters. Anna Tivel is an exceptional storyteller who is able to bring the characters of her songs close to the listener’s heart. Her 2019 album The Question that came out on the 19th of April on Fluff & Gravy Records is one of the finest of the year and full of warm-hearted and powerful songwriting. Anna Tivel’s tremendous contribution to this anniversary week is a new song that doesn’t even have a name yet. If you want to hear more from Anna Tivel, a good place to start is this new and influential music video for the title track of the new album. After that follow the links below for more masterful songwriting.
